    Previously Suggested Ideas v2.0

    Previously Suggested Ideas
    Updated 30th August

IMPORTANT! - The developers are highly overworked at this time due to the below issues, among other things. Whining about them, starting new threads to complain, etc., will not help, and will not speed things up. Patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait. Yada yada...

WHEN Will This Be Implemented? - The generic answer to this question for EVERY idea is: As soon as it can be got to. The devs working around the clock to get these issues resolved. (Sleep is for the weak.) What may seem like a simple thing to you may not be so simple on a system as extensive as Last.fm is, so may take time. Some bugs ideas may also not be as important to the devs as they are to you. Add to that: If the devs give a specific date, and are unable to get it fixed by then, the whiners come out of the woodwork. So please, don't ask.

I suggested something that isn't on this list! - Everything on this list is something that has either generated a lot of discussion, or been suggested several times, or that has had an explaination of how things will be done on the site in this direction by one of the devs. If you feel your thread justifies being mentioned here, PM me or one of the other mods. This is entirely at the moderators discretion and shouldn't be taken personally. We don't see every thread by a long shot.

Note to people referring to Suggested Ideas. The last updated date of this is reflected in the "Edited" date at the bottom of the post. Accuracy is not garanteed.

    Additional Plugins
Plugin development is generally done by third party people with experience with the media player in question. Additionally, most of the currently unsupported media players have no mechanism for writing a plugin for them - support would have to be written in to the player by the developers. People wanted to develop plugins or player support should email Russ. If you want to see support written in to your music player, please contact the author of the software.

    General site ideas:
    • "Swear Filter" As a user selectable option, to allow the site (particularly forums) to get past restrictive filters rather than for sensorship.

    Profile Ideas:
    • Reccomending Groups - Reccomending groups that you may like to join. This is complicated as groups reflect a range of things - from artists, to software and hardware choices, to geographies to communities outside of last.fm, so I'm not sure how useful this would actually prove to be.
    • Showing "Top Fan" Status on user pages - e.g showing which artists you are a top fan of on your page.
    • Deleting suggested artists - Removing artists from the ones reccomended to you by last.fm, because you already listen to them or don't like them
    • Editing the HTML or Style of your page will never happen. Ever. Don't even ask. But BBCode works. ;)
    • Charts do not reflect track length. Russ says: What I'm saying is that it's impractical to do at this time. It'll take a lot of effort for very little gain. But we are considering it, and I'd like to do it at some point, but there are more important things to do.
    • Submitting tracks played on offline devices (eg car stereos, MP3 players. etc) - this is being worked on.. iPods are supported for iTunes users (Mac and Windows).
    • Geolocation is in the works
    • Clearer definition of profile preferences - the differentiation between profile, preferences and dashboard is unclear - some of the functionality could be merged

    Forum Ideas:
    • Artist Discussion, Gig Discussion and a Genre Discussion fora Quoth Russ:
Artist should be discussed in artist groups. There will be a new events system soon which will cover gigs. Genres are annoying superficial concepts which should be eliminated.
    • Global Search should include forums, or the always-visible seach box could have a forums checkbox Quoth Russ:
We contemplated changing this but 99% of the searches going through the search box are music-related. We don't want to clutter up the results tab with results which aren't relevant to most users.

    Journal Ideas:
    • Seperation between Journals and Memes, with a possible user voting system to force their catagory

    Artist Ideas:
    • Lyrics are subject to copyright and so are therefore not possible to be uploaded to the site (see this thread).

    Album Ideas:
    • Displaying album release dates and other information Release dates is a simple addition and will be done soon. Other information may come with musicbrainz integration.

    Label Feature Ideas:
    • Official Radio Stations for publications and events which can be publicised to users internally.
