About the homepage and its statements when not logged in

Right now, all over the world… x people love y

Hey, just because you've listened to something doesn't mean you LOVE it.

It pretty much sums up what this website has become, and it's sad :(
  • You know you can love tracks, right? They show up in your library that way (for instance, my loved tracks). Subscribers can also play a radio station of their loved tracks.

But these stats that show up on the homepage are the number of listens, not the number of times a track has been loved...

Well, it looks like it's the number of listeners, but still not related to people having 'loved' a track or anything.

Yes. That is my point. It really feels strange reading that on the homepage and then realizing it's not true.
  • Then I'm guessing it's just a bug.

My guess is that it was done on purpose. Sadly.
  • Why?

When they have a feature called "loved tracks", and they use the word "love" here, it should have something to do with that feature. It seems stupid to use the word "love" otherwise, since, as you say, it only means they've listened to it.

Advertising, making things in Last.fm sound all jolly and appealing. Except the sweet lie has backfired and offended users, so I guess that makes it a dysphemism. ;) I had a look and NIN was mentioned... I've listened to them a few times, but I don't even like them, let alone love them.
Dead Kid Harvester, the sound of kitchen utensils, erratic discord, insanity.
Latest song: PlayMy Brain Surgeon Has Parkinson's Disease.
  • I don't know, it seems weird they would emphasize it like that when it's clearly not true.

Maybe they're just being stupid though, who knows?
  • What if that statistic on the front page is quoting the number of people who have clicked on the "loved" button for that artist. Then it would be true. It actually wouldn't have anything to do with listens since you can love something without having listened to it.

I logged out before to check that, but it was definitely displaying the number of listeners on the site.

Happy to see that i'm not the only one ..."shocked" about that.
