OK this is totally corny to admit, but I'm loving the Charlie Calello Orchestra's Calello Serenade (Midsong, 1979). It's the sort of cliche big-band/swing stuff that gets Woody Allen's dick hard and was all the rage in the late '70s, and you'd think a discofication of it would be dreadful if done by anyone except August Darnell, but Calello's a serious music biz macher who's produced and arranged some big-deal records for big-deal people (inc. Laura Nyro's amazing Eli and the Thirteenth Confession from 1968). This is a perfect way to hear these tunes again for the thousandth time, done up with actual groove and panache.
