Is there anyone brave enough to use KDE4 on their computer - everyday?

I'd like to use it, but it's just too basic and for now gives no great benefits over KDE3.x. The Dolphin file browser is a particular step backwards, reminds me of MS-Windows file manager rather than the much easier and faster to use Linux file manager (in KDE3.x).

Plus, lots of people have not ported their applications to use KDE4.

The KDE4 project feels like using the Linux user base as beta testers, it doesn't feel ready for a full-time roll out. The project promises a lot, but so far has failed to deliver.

Konqueror is good, but Dolphin is better. I love KDE4!
  • I still prefer KDE 3.5.9 over KDE 4.1.X. I don't know why, but it still feels so uncomfortable.
Does someone know how to change the amount of rows for programs in the taskpanel? I need two: XD
And at least for me all the control elements are too large. I prefer the decent looking KDE 3-style, with some additional design manipulation.
  • kde 4.1.2, I think it's good enough for everyday work...
  • I don't like KDE4 at all :(
    I prefer KDE3x
  • KDE 4.1.x made me to dislike KDE 3.x
  • KDE4 made me return back to KDE3, then replace all KDE by Openbox...
  • I used it for about 2 months, but now use my machine with different purpose and need 100% stability. However, KDE 4.1.x kicks ass
  • I've been used it for 2 hours and until I understand that KDE 4 is total crap and switched to KDE 3.5.9

I used KDE 4.1 at my university quite about daily a few weeks ago to check out on it. It was stable enough to work with, and reasonably fast for the slowish computer it ran on. I personally prefer FVWM over just about anything, but I think it's good enough for such a recent release.
Grep me no patterns and I'll give you no lines.
  • I'm using KDE 4 since 4.0...this helped me a lot learning all the console commands :-)
  • KDE 4.1.2
But these troubles with Nvidia drivers makes me crazy.

    KDE 4.1.2
  • KDE 4.1.2 since Kubuntu Intrepid and quite positively surprised after having played around a little with KDE 4.0 in Hardy. Seems to actually run smoother on my old box, even with some Compiz-eyecandy active :-)

Sadly though, Amarok 1.4 is still based on KDE 3.5 but when Amarok 2.0 gets released (together with HURD and Duke Nukem Forever, apparently) this will be fixed as well.

  • I have used KDE 4 since KDE 4.0 was released. Of course I used KDE 4.0 only for a moment. After I used KDE 4.1 from alpha to stable release. Actually I want to compile KDE from svn again :).

You can always add an additional panel :)
    That's what I did eventually.
  • Yeah!

    KDE 4.1.73 rox
  • I like KDE 4.1 a lot. I prefer it over Gnome and XFCE. and over KDE 3.x as well.
