Description: Here's why:
When you buy a Major Label CD for £9.99
- about 82p goes to the band if they have paid back the label.
- about £4 goes to HMV/Virgin etc. +tax
- about 16p goes to those behind...
We are a group in favour of a more fair music industry, boycotting major label CDs, and supporting artists who refuse to join major labels.
The Main Offenders Boycott list:
-Capitol Records
-Sony
-Epic
-EMI
-Maverick
-BMG
-Universal
-Many, many more. Read up on the problem.

don't get me wrong I'm still against the RIAA because they do a crappy job at supporting the artist, meaning they fail to satisfy both facts I mentioned below. Btw the link to downhill battle doesn't seem to be working

There are two facts about music: 1: Music is a part of culture and culture is part of being human and it is unfair that a poor person should have less access to culture than a rich person 2: Musicians and song writers spend a lot of effort and time into making music and it's only fair that they get some financial acknowledgment for their hard work. If they can make good music liked by many then they should be able to get some money from it so they can spend more time making music and less time doing other stuff. Nobody seems to be able to satisfy these two facts. Record labels completely disregard the first by treating music like a product and many P2P users completely ignore the second. The argument "If an artist wants money then he should just get it from preforming live" fails as part of the nature of music today is that live performances have become only a small part of songwriting/being a musician. There are good ideas out there however, like Voluntary Collective Licensing.

i worked for Epic. the people are really cool there, its just the bands dont get alot of credit so they are working with the RIAA so that you listen to them legally.

arandelovic - its the fact that the major labels arent really in touch with anything creative they could do to truly fix the problem. Instead they're suing people and shit, without even stopping a fraction of the people who use p2p. also - http://www.riaaradar.com/

Im sorry but maybe im misunderstanding what exactly you want to gain from this group..In my opinion i think its stupid, you all wouldnt have heard alot of great bands if it wasnt for these record labels and also how does it effect any of you? I suspect the majority of you are downloading your albums of the net and have no complaints there anyway!!

The best music is on the indielabels and even though they have a tighter budget they manage to get even + give the bands a fair deal.
