  There are two facts about music: 1: Music is a part of culture and culture is part of being human and it is unfair that a poor person should have less access to culture than a rich person 2: Musicians and song writers spend a lot of effort and time into making music and it's only fair that they get some financial acknowledgment for their hard work. If they can make good music liked by many then they should be able to get some money from it so they can spend more time making music and less time doing other stuff. Nobody seems to be able to satisfy these two facts. Record labels completely disregard the first by treating music like a product and many P2P users completely ignore the second. The argument "If an artist wants money then he should just get it from preforming live" fails as part of the nature of music today is that live performances have become only a small part of songwriting/being a musician. There are good ideas out there however, like Voluntary Collective Licensing.

  i worked for Epic. the people are really cool there, its just the bands dont get alot of credit so they are working with the RIAA so that you listen to them legally.
