I always prefer some kind of electro when high (whatever the drug), because It can amplify the efect, and listen to "organic" music only when being ok, so I can fully enjoy the lyrics and melodies etc. :) But I understand you. ;) btw, psytrance developed from goa (which was strongly influenced by psychedelic rock;)), but they are simillar genres in general.

psy/ambient trance (isn't that 'Goa trance'?) are psychedelic in a 'synthetic' sence.. When on MDMA it's divine, but I prefer a natural high. (cannabis and shrooms) which goes best with psychedelic rock. (sounds more organic)

@FijneWIET: I know the album and I like the song White Rabbit :), and I know that many psychedelic rock artists used LSD. But when I compare the "psychedelicity" of an average psy-rock song to an average psytrance or psybient track... Then the psy-rock doesn't song seem to be psychedelic at all. But it's probably just my subjective perception of music. :)

Unlike Surrealistic Pillow, released earlier the same year, After Bathing at Baxter's is classified as psychedelic rock because it eschews the more commercial type pop songs, such as "Somebody to Love", that appeared on the earlier LP.

Divided into "suites", this musical shift is typified by lengthier and more experimental compositions such as the nine-minute instrumental "Spare Chaynge" and Grace Slick's mammoth and unusual "rejoyce", a homage to James Joyce's novel "Ulysses", with its quirky arrangement and Jack Casady's stentorian bass-line. Many of the album tracks reflect the band's heavy use of the drug LSD. (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/After_Bathing_at_Baxter%27s)

I like the music labeled as "psychedelic rock"... But I think this genre doesn't really exist. Few Doors→Strange Days and Pink Floyd songs might be both psychedelic and rock. But such tracks are imho very rare. What's psychedelic, for example, about Jefferson Airplane?

Have a listen to The Silver Wizard Project, a mix of psychedelic rock and new wave. Been described as a cross between Hawkwind, Blondie and Joy Division.
