Note: My charts have changed slightly since I wrote this (Last.fm wouldn't allow the posting of journals yesterday) but I am too lazy to change it.
1. How did you get into 29?
Default
My interest in Default goes WAY back to pretty much the dawn of when I actually started becoming interested in music more than just listening to random singles. I believe I saw the music video for (Taking My) Life Away on MuchMusic, and I wound up becoming a fan and buying their album Elocation.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
The song would be Another Morning Stoner, which was shown to me by psychomode. I have admittedly not heard too many times, but it did play a hand in getting me interested in Trail of Dead though.
3. How many albums by 13 do you own?
Agalloch
I have all three of their main albums Pale Folklore, The Mantle, and Ashes Against the Grain. I also have The White EP.
4. What is your favorite song by 15?
Lacuna Coil
This is a pretty typical choice, but my favourite song by Lacuna Coil is probably Heaven's a Lie. It was the first song I ever heard by them and it has pretty much stuck with me ever since.
5. What is your favorite song by 5?
Weezer
Only in Dreams, no real contest really. I don't think they can ever top that song.
6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
Takeharu Ishimoto
"On the Verge of Assault "from FFVII Those Who Fight"". It is a remake of the battle theme from Final Fantasy VII, and the first time I heard it in Crisis Core it put a HUGE smile on my face.
7. What is your favorite song by 10?
Gackt
届カナイ愛ト知ッテイタノニ抑エキレズニ愛シ続ケタ… is my favourite Gackt song, no question. It translates roughly into "Even though I know that my love will never reach you, I continue to love you uncontrollably." Despite the fact that this song is in Japanese and I cannot understand the lyrics, it is easily one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. The fan translation of the lyrics are actually pretty good too.
8. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
Ash
Probably the fact that at first I kind of thought this band was pretty meh when I first heard them. Then I eventually realized I vastly underestimated them when I heard the song Clones. Then the album Meltdown happened to make it onto my PSP when I went on a ski trip and I sped down the mountain listening to some pretty fun kick-ass tunes by them.
9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
Finger Eleven
That is a good question. I generally get positive feelings, mostly nostalgic when I hear the song First Time.
10. How many times have you seen 25 live?
Daft Punk
Never. I probably never will either since these guys don't seem to perform live very often. I don't even know if they've ever even come to Canada. I presume these guys would be amazing to see live though.
11. What is the first song you ever heard by7?
Kamelot
Descent of the Archangel, shown to me by LordInfadula. He is solely responsible for triggering my obsession with this band a while back.
12. What is your favorite album by 11?
Nightwish
Once. "Ghost Love Score" is simply one of the best "EPIC" songs I have ever heard, and the chorus is beautiful. Kuolema tekee taiteilijan is also one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I don't care what any of the other Nightwish fans say, and I DO really like the album Dark Passion Play, but Annette can simply never surpass the sheer beauty that only the voice of Tarja can portray, and I think Once was her magnum opus with the band.
13. Who is a favorite member of 1?
Breaking Benjamin
Admittedly the only member of Breaking Benjamin that I actually know ANYTHING about is Benjamin Burnley. He just seems like a pretty cool guy, and he is also a gamer. I actually don't even know any of the other band members names which is kind of a disgrace considering they are #1 on my charts.
14. Have you ever seen 14 live?
Guns N' Roses
No, and I don't think I ever would even if I could see them live. Guns N' Roses used to be my favourite band, so this probably seems a little odd that I would say no. Why you ask? Because as far as I am concerned Guns N' Roses do not exist anymore. The only remaining member from the TRUE Guns N' Roses is Axel Rose, and seeing GNR without the classic lineup, especially Slash, simply just isn't worth it. I don't want to see one of my favourite songs of all time "Sweet Child 'o Mine" desecrated by a bunch of nobodies.
That being said, if I could travel back in time to the early 90s, hell yes I would go see these guys live in a heart beat.
15. What is a good memory involving 27?
Demons & Wizards
I can't really say I've had any "good memories" with this band. I guess simply the fact that during the time that I was really into Iced Earth and Blind Guardian I was pretty excited to hear one of my favourite guitarists team up with an amazing vocalist who wrote the lyrics instead of Jon Schaffer. Sure, Jon Schaffer has written some really cool songs for Iced Earth, but it is nice to see him play guitar for an amazing singer who writes his own material to go with Schaffer's music.
16. What is your favorite song by 16?
Symphony X
If I had to choose just one it would be the title track from the Paradise Lost album. Paradise Lost is a great song, but to be honest, that entire album is simply one of the best polished and most complete sounding metal albums I have ever heard. There isn't really a single song on that album that I think feels out of place or sounds of lesser quality than the rest.
17. What is your favorite album by 18?
Amon Amarth
Probably "With Oden on Our Side". It is the album I am the most familiar with, and it has really really kick ass songs. Two of my favourite Amon Amarth songs also come from this album, "Runes to My Memory" and "Hermod's Ride to Hel - Loke's Treachery".
18. What is your favorite song by 21?
Pyramaze
Either Caramon's Poem, or Tears of Hate. It is hard to choose because they have had two different vocalists. So my favourite song from the Lance King era is easily Tears of Hate, it is an amazing song, and a fantastic album closer to Legend of the Bone Carver, which IMO tells an amazing story for a concept album. Although I only really recommend this album to people who are 1. into metal, and 2. like fantasy-inspired concept story albums. Caramon's Poem is my favourite song from their newest album "Immortal" which is actually inspired by an old novel, so it is also a fantasy-based song. Definitely my favourite song with vocals from Matt Barlow of Iced Earth fame though. Honestly, if you are a metalhead and have never heard of Pyramaze, CHECK THEM OUT. They are one of the most underrated metal bands in existence. Only recommended if you like power metal though.
19. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?
Moi dix Mois
The first song I have ever heard by Moi dix Mois was Monophobia, which is from their NOCTURNAL OPERA album. The song grew on me massively, mainly due to the chorus, which I eventually found impossible to resist.
20. What is your favorite album by 2?
植松伸夫
...Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is hard for me to choose considering he has made a billion plus one game soundtracks released on multiple discs... so... I guess I will just have to go with Final Fantasy VII: Original Soundtrack, simply because it was the first time I ever heard any of his work and he produced many of my all-time favourites in this work. Those Who Fight Further, Aerith's Theme, Cid's Theme, Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII, One-Winged Angel, among many others.
21. What is your favorite song by 3?
Our Lady Peace
This is pretty hard for me, considering Our Lady Peace has been one of my favourite bands, since pretty much ever. So since they are #3 on my charts and I have 3 songs I absolutely love I will go with those. "Thief", "If You Believe", and "The Wonderful Future" are easily three of their best songs, and my personal favourites. If I had to go with JUST ONE though even though Thief is probably my personal favourite, The Wonderful Future is their best composition.
22. What is you favorite song by 8?
In Flames
Episode 666. This isn't really a difficult choice for me, if anyone ever asked me why I liked Melodic Death Metal all I would really need to do is send them a link to this song.
23. How many times have you seen 17 live?
Metallica
Once again, never. I have never actually seen ANY bands live. I don't think I would ever want to see Metallica live either. Any Metallica concert would probably just be full of a bunch of TROO METAL elitists that would sneer at anyone who doesn't have a mullet or hair that goes down to their feet and smells like 3 year old BO.
24. What is the worst song by 12?
Blind Guardian
You know, Blind Guardian's discography is so god damn big choosing their worst song would be the biggest pain in the ass ever. I don't really think Blind Guardian really have any BAD songs anyways, because when I think of songs by them that I dislike, nothing comes to mind.
25. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?
Eluvium
Amreik, shown to me by psychomode. Which I am thankful for, since Eluvium has some absolutely fantastic music.
26. What is you favorite album by 20?
Matthew Good
Avalanche, songs like "Weapon", "In a World Called Catastrophe", "Avalanche", and "While We Were Hunting Rabbits" makes Avalanche feature some of Matthew Good's best work, and possibly the best he will ever make.
27. What is your favorite song by 24?
Radiohead
Everything's in its Right Place. I am not the biggest Radiohead fan on the face of the Earth, and I actually am not really super big on Kid A either, but that song is awesome.
28. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
The Black Mages
The Man With the Machine Gun (Final Fantasy VIII). This was one of the most memorable songs from Final Fantasy VIII, and The Black Mages version pretty much puts a smile on my face everytime I hear it.
29. What is your favorite album by 4?
Iced Earth
Horror Show, although Something Wicked This Way Comes is a close second. Something Wicked is probably a much larger accomplishment by Iced Earth, but Horror Show's horror-themed songs influenced by classic horror tales is really neat stuff, and it is an incredibly solid album.
30. How many albums do you own by 23?
Delain
Delain only have one album, so one. They better release a follow up soon because Lucidity ranks among the best debut albums I have ever heard. The first time I heard it I was completely blown away and left thinking "This is their FIRST album? 0_0"
