Kumi Tanioka (born August 29, 1974 in Hiroshima) composes for Square (since 1998). Prior education included attending the University of Kobe. Her interest in music dates back to playing piano in early ages.

Tanioka’s first big compositions were used for 2001’s Final Fantasy XI (Online). Alongside Nobuo Uematsu and Naoshi Mizuta, she became a member of the composer group “The Star Onions.”

Later, she was asked to compose all the scores for 2003’s Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles.
