Indeed. It's my second favourite of his fully acoustic albums (I slightly prefer E Langonned) and it really has a brilliant atmosphere. Son Ar Chistr is really good - I'd love to hear Tri Yann singing it, because the vocal harmonies would really suit them (their version of Tri Martolod is fantastic partly for that reason). I also love his version of Morrison's jig on 'Suite Irlandaise'.

I agree about 'Reflets' - that album is pure gold.

Does anyone else have problems with Winamp auto-tagging tracks it can't find in the online database as Alan Stivell? It's quite a strange problem!

HotRat wrote:
If you like those, you should probably also check out Reflets, which was his first 'proper' album (there are some recordings from the 1950s on an LP called Telenn Geltiek, which is solo harp. He didn't sing on any recordings until he recorded Reflets). There's also Live In Dublin and International Tour, which I love, but I'd recommend À l'Olympia before them. International Tour is very proggy.

Chemins de Terre, I'd say. It was the first album I heard and it is still my favourite. I also love E Langonned, which is entirely acoustic, and À l'Olympia. I bought the latter on cassette when I was in Bretagne and have loved it ever since. The first half of the album is acoustic and the second half is electric - it's probably the best live album I've ever heard.

A busker lent me Back to Breizh and fter the first few seconds of hearing it I knew I loved this man's music. He's so wonderful! I don't know which album to go for next. Any suggestions?

Tri Martolod is one of my favourite songs ever. I cannot understand a word of it (unforunately) but it moves me more than any song with words that I can understand!

Tri martolod or Inis Mona? I can't chose! Both are beautiful!

Explore is a great album. It is brilliant to see that there are still some older musicians who are more relevant and original than young groups these days. He mixed electronica and Breton music perfectly.

I've always known I was born on the wrong place since I went on vacation in Bretagne (I live in Belgium)... I have listened to Alan Stivell since I was a little boy. My father used to play old records of him while I was still a baby, and when I grew up I played the cds over and over. And I didn't understand why the other kids from my class didn't like it! A couple days ago I re-discoverd Alan Stiv

heh, people should also consider: back in the day of Alan Stivell: he wasn't appreciated by everyone, 'cause he was one of the few who played traditional celtic folk music with the ocasional electronics (guitar, organ) !I see a similarity between that and the way Manau used it in rap music ;] but ahwell, Manau is nothing in comparison with what Stivell has made, of course <3
