Current 93

Much of Current 93’s early work was similar to late 1970s and early 1980s industrial music: abrasive tape loops, droning synthesizer noises and Tibet’s distorted, ranting vocals. Later works found Tibet mostly casting off such trappings in favor of a more organic sound, labeled by some as “apocalyptic folk”, occasionally featuring his sinister nursery rhyme-influenced singing and primarily acoustic folk-styled music. Tibet has been the only constant in the group, though Steven Stapleton (Nurse With Wound) has appeared on nearly every Current 93 release and Michael Cashmore is another frequent collaborator.
Current 93 have released some twenty albums and many singles.
Tibet’s lyrics have been fairly consistent, regardless of delivery: The earlier recordings reflect his preoccupation with death, Christ, mysticism, Aleister Crowley, Tibetan Buddhism, Gnosticism, Weltschmerz, nihilism, Noddy, and a variety of occult notions. The later to present-day period of Current 93’s recordings increasingly reflect Tibet’s interest in Christian mysticism.

@ Empathy82: Agreed. Musically, it's not nearly as complicated as other C93 albums, but it's still wonderful.

The vinyl version of 'Sleep Has His House' was a big surprise. Its interesting to hear an alternative version of one of my absolute favorite albums ever. Definitely interesting though I probably still prefer the original version. Worth checking out if your a fan of the original though.

Although I love his more musical stuff, my absolute favorites will always be his spoken word stuff like Hypnagogue and his works with Ligotti. His collaborations with N & O are good, too.

I have no idea. My favourites are Lucifer Over London, Thunder Perfect Mind, Special Plan, Nature Unveiled, Tamlin, Island and Hypnagogue, but all C93 albums are good.

It's too difficult for me to say which album is the best. Sometimes I might think it's Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre, while other times I would think it's Island or Swastikas For Noddy, or All The Pretty Little Horses, or Thunder Perfect Mind...

@ AntyM92: I Have A Special Plan For This World is haunting, but the one that really gets me is All The Stars Are Dead Now. Whilst The Night Rejoices Profound And Still comes really close, though.

Another person who just disappeard would be Renate Birulf. Kind of sad, considering what a great job she did on Riverdeadbank.

There always (or at least from late 80s) was fascination with Christian themes in his music. It seems quite logical that he finally declared himself Christian. Perhaps it would be less shocking when you realize he didn't join any particular church. He's just still waiting for the end of the world, and it's also logical that if you are waiting for the Second Coming it's better to be on the winners side ;)
