Just under 200 unique artists last week. Not a bad trick.
9. Mabulu
It's not a good sign that all I can remember of this outfit is that they're from Mozambique. There may have been the odd bit of good melody in there, but I really can't remember anything special.
9. DJ Shadow
One of the most creative minds - in any style of music - in the world today. "The Private Press" is more consciously humorous than his debut, but both albums are great.
8. Cro-Mags
I normally can't stand old punk, and thrash is such a limiting style of music as well, but the combination of the two in this band just works wonders.
7. Falls of Rauros
People fall over themselves (no pun intended) to praise this duo. Personally, I feel as though I'm listening to Darkthrone playing Wolves in the Throne Room, which doesn't work for me on a first listen.
6. Vendetta
"Classic German thrash". Sadly, I now know these are three words to avoid.
5. Hallelujah Chicken Run Band
I've decided they're more interesting than good. Some quality in there, but not enough.
4. Lee Aaron
Largely, see above. Bad hair metal has been done a lot better.
3. Riverside
Utterly fantastic. Rarely have I heard three albums in which not a single note is out of place, but Riverside have achieved that.
2. Dizzee Rascal
Another artist I've been lucky enough to rediscover. I love the whole "seedy side of London" vibe that a lot of garage and grime carries with it, and Dizzee's a classic example of that.
1. DJ Assault
Just confirming my previous opinion. He's terrible. -
Bored again. 40 questions about my top 50 artists.

1. How did you get into 29? Vitalic
I was visiting friends in London and one of the friends let another one hear this great new artist he'd heard about. I liked him too. That was Vitalic.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22? Yann Tiersen
Like for so many people, that must have been the opening music of Amelie.
3. What's your favorite lyric by 33? Detritus
Detritus don't have lyrics. I think.
4. How did you get into 49? MC Solaar
Asked a question about French hip hop on Ask Metafilter .
5. How many albums by 13 do you own? Baby Mammoth
All of them. Actual albums, yes, really.
6. What is your favorite song by 50? Jamiroquai
The Return of the Space Cowboy.
7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad? DJ Shadow
No, can't say that there is.
8. What is your favorite song by 15? Rondo' Veneziano
Chimere.

There were 40 more questions but I did not want to procrastinate /that/ badly. -

9. DJ Shadow
It's a while since I've heard good music produced entirely on turntables, and DJ Shadow most assuredly does that. The man is a very very smart cookie, basically.
9. Angélique Kidjo
I'd often meant to check her out, and based on one album she's not bad. A bit light on for my tastes in African music, but definitely not bad music in general terms.
8. Cro-Mags
One of the (arguably the) first bands to combine punk and metal - and thus lead to a very interesting series of developments on both sides of that equation. I've often been disappointed with "legendary" albums, but these guys can stand up and be proud even now.
7. Lair of the Minotaur
Without a doubt, one of the more boring doom bands I've come across. I used to be able to see what the fuss was about, even if I didn't agree with it, but I can't even do that now.
6. Lee Aaron
A strange one here. She used to sing rather run-of-the-mill glam metal and now sings jazz. Not convinced that she's overly good, though.
4. Woods of Infinity
I came very close to appreciating their albums this week, but the problem is that they just don't know when to stop recording. Everything's far too long and loses interest as a result.
4. Riverside
What a find! Poland's basically only known for death metal (and some black metal), but these guys are pure progressive rock and metal, and do terrific things as a result. I can't get enough of this band, and I'm so impressed with what I've heard. Definitely the musical discovery of the month.
3. Stam1na
As with Woods of Infinity, I nearly ended up liking this band. There's some definite quality on each album, but just not enough to make it worthwhile.
2. Vengeance Rising
In the abstract, a Christian thrash metal act with violent lyrics that then turned to atheism is an interesting idea. Over the course of four albums, though, it becomes very clear that it's a one-trick pony that wasn't particularly good at the trick in the first place.
1. DJ Assault
I found this album lying around on my hard drive, and hoped it might've been hilariously bad. In the event, it was just bad. -

My new reckoner remix
26 Sep 2008, 00:53 by Hippomothamus
So Radiohead released all the separate parts that make up the song
Reckoner for people to remix. So I did. I only used parts from the song. No other drums and samples etc. All Radiohead.
I think I delved deep into my soul and found my inner DJ Shadow for this one.
You can hear and vote for it at the link below. I don't actually win anything, but the website http://www.radioheadremix.com ranks them by votes so if you enjoy it feel free to hit the little plus sign. Thanks.
Note: This has no connection to my Rhyming In Rainbows mixtape.
