    3. What's your favorite lyric by 33? (Scott Walker)
    Quick give us your lips
    Give us your thighs
Give us your sad and devouring eyes
    Cascading tears for every heartbeat
Tonight we'll sleep with PlayThe Girls From the Streets

    4. How did you get into 49? (The Rolling Stones)
I've been aware of them for as long as I can remember, but the first time I really 'got' them would be listening to PlayGimme Shelter at about 5am in a Brighton university dorm in 2000.

    PlayAnorexic Robot

    7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad? (Dave Clarke)

    PlayLa Javanaise

    9. What is your favorite song by 5? (The Cabin Fever)

Has to be PlayStranger in Blue Suede Shoes

    13. What is a good memory you have involving 30? (Mr. Oizo)
I found the CD in a Levne Knihy shop for about 30p and listened to it a lot the next six months or so, but unusually there are no specific memories attached to the music.

    14. What is your favorite song by 38? (Selfish Cunt)
    Britain Is Shit

    15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy? (Can)
Bring Me Coffee or Tea produces a wry, but genuine smile.

    16. Is there a song by 25 that makes you sad? (The Jam)
No, however all of Paul Weller's solo work makes me sad for a different reason.

    17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23? (John Barry)
I expect I heard some of his James Bond stuff when I was very young indeed, but the fist time I was aware of him individually would be with the music from PlayMidnight Cowboy

Remedies, because it's the only one I know properly.

Has to be PlayFly Me to New York (Featuring DJ Rubbish) for very wrong and very funny wrong funnies.

    26. What is the first song you ever heard by 26? (Jefferson Airplane)
Hard to say as I imagine I heard them when I was fairly young. Something like PlayWhite Rabbit most likely.

    27. What is your favorite album by 3? (The Fall
This Nation's Saving Grace is the slightly obvious choice, but Slates is a mini-album of equal quality.

The local Indie DJ used to play PlayOrgan Donor all the time.

    34. What is the worst song by 45? (The Incredible String Band)
There are no really bad ISB tracks, 50% are great, 50% are interminable hippy strumming, and therefore merely skippable.

I heard PlayAt Home He's a Tourist in about 1998 as my stepdad had the single.

    PlayAsfalt Tango

  • My A-Z (I Am So Kidding)

    20 Jan 2006, 08:39 by scarebear

What is the deal with the iTunes lists? I just don't understand. Yes, I feel a burning desire to jump in on bandwagons when something is interesting or cool, but not when it's completely pointless. Yes, it's pointless, even if you open your mind wide. Here's the lowdown, in a way anyone can understand. If I wanted to know your favorite artists, from A-Z, if I want to know what songs of yours have the word "sex" in them, I could just look at your profile. I hope you're happy people, last.fm had to think of a way to make posts/journals relevant, I'm guessing, entirely because of the amount of iTunes lists. Nice going, clueless wonders.

Anywho, I do feel the need to to chronicle my newly acquired vinyl discs, since those won't show up on my stats. Actually, the records are both mine and Paula's. (Paula's my girlfriend. So that's something I have in common with David Sedaris, we both have a significant other from Louisville.* She's very cute, and very nice, and I don't know how she puts up with me, and that's all you need to know.)

I promised myself that I would allow this diversion if I wouldn't take up too much time doing it. So I'm only going to list a few of the records. I'll add the rest later in another journal. Or I might not. Who knows?

---Eleven Centuries of Chinese Classical Music: Music from the T'ang, Sung, Yuan and Ming Dynasties (600-1600)**
Like this album a lot, except I can't help myself from thinking of the music in the movie "Kung Fu Hustle."

---How Brown Sounds Now? Les Brown and His Band of Renown***
Not a great album, made in 1976, and Les Brown was pretty old then. He did his take on songs like "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and other songs popular in the 70's. I was trying to listen to it but lost interest after the second song or so.

---Blackberry Jam 1943-45: Ethel Waters, Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, Dinah Washington, Helen Humes, Benny Carter, Cab Calloway, Noble Sissle, Lionel Hampton, Joe Liggins and the Honeydrippers
This album is a gem, I highly recommend it if you ever come across it.

    ---Crosby Classics: Bing Crosby**
The title speaks for itself. I'm in a minority, but I like Bing better than Frank.

---Artie Shaw and his Orchestra: Moonglow**
I love anything by Artie Shaw. He just died recently in 2004, he was 94 freakin' years old.

    ---Frank Sinatra, My Cole Porter**
How can you go wrong with that combination?

---Bwana a: More Exotic Sounds of Arthur Lyman**
Very nice, and excellent music for pretending you're deserted on a tropical island.

---Steve Martin "A Wild and Crazy Guy"**
A bit of a let-down, the jokes have not endured the test of time.
