  • Music to be April to: Vol. 2

    15 Jul 2008, 00:15 by enlitenedkarma

Ok so I'm going to assume no one saw volume 1, which I'm ok with. This is my record anyways, and I'm not going to explain myself on why, again.

Quick info in case this goes elsewhere from volume 1, don't own an iPod, use last.fm to find new music, blah blah, listen to my playlist all day, which is up over the 200 mark. Hopefully you will find some new music or get inspired to keep a record of what your music means to you. P.S.: These are simply in alphabetical order, no love for one over another. Here we go....

    Gorillaz
    PlayDare (Junior Sanchez Remix)
This song has a pretty funny story to it. The Junior Sanchez Remix was the only version that was being played on 93.3 in Denver. For some really messed up reason, the dj's never gave the name of the song or who sang it, and for months I was reduced to a raving lunatic asking the burning question, "Who belongs to this damn song?!?!?" My final attempt to call the radio station turned up the Gorillaz. Sweet! What album? Demon Days. Huh, my boyfriend at the time says to me, "Don't you own that album?" I do. The versions sounded so different in my brain I did not connect them. I had bought Demon Days the day it released, and had it in my possession for over a year before that song hit the radio. The moral of the story is...fucking pay attention.

    John Mayer
    PlayDaughters
He is a self-proclaimed douche bag, and of course every woman loves at least one of his tracks, and it's usually this one. Most of the time because we have good mother-daughter relationships, or because John is telling the world to be nice to your mommies, and that's just sweet. On Wednesday, I will hit the age of 'the ticking time bomb'. I have decided to ignore my biological clock until 25. Which doesn't help that there's a loudly ticking clock hanging over my bed, ticking all night. I have accepted the fact that even though I still want to play all night and have fun, my brain is saying 'babies, family, settle'. We can't come to an agreement. Point is, Mr. John Mayer has put it sweetly and heartfelt that 'girls become lovers, then turn into mothers' and that transition is something I look forward to...one day.

    Nine Inch Nails
    PlayDead Souls
Beautiful song. From the soundtrack 'The Crow' which is a requirement for the 80's children to know every minute of. Perfect balanced between sweet/sad love story and kicking some ass. By itself, it's still another masterfully executed track by Trent Reznor.

    Christina Milian
    PlayDip It Low
This song is one of those 'Summertime' songs that you fall in love with whilst being bad between school years. You know what I'm talking about.

    Bitter:Sweet
    PlayDirty Laundry
This is a new track on my playlist and for the life of me I can't remember where I found it. Completely worth actively seeking it out. 'I've got a bad boy and that's alright with me, his dirty laundry is nothing that I can't keep clean, and when he needs an alibi, he can use me all night' this is an all too common problem I've had. To me this song would represent a destructive relationship, though the lyrics don't reflect that. Listen to the lyrics, and put it to a relationship you've experienced that was just not meant to be.

    Rihanna
    PlayDon't Stop the Music
Love the album. Love the Umbrella. Love this song. Simply put, it makes me jump up and shake my ass.

    Franz Ferdinand
    PlayDo You Want To
I've always maintained that Franz Ferdinand is an aquired taste. Only if you can say the name without laughing or feeling uncomfortable. This just happens to be my favorite track of theirs.

    O-Zone
PlayDragostea Din Tei (Original Italian Version)
When I heard my younger sister call this 'The numa numa song' I almost slapped her. When I lived in Denver, there was an amazing little hole in the wall hookah bar that I frequented with my friends, Marrakesh. Maybe 6 tables, tons of pillows and couches, and a ledge half way up the wall that was just wide enough to dance on, and it wrapped around the place. When this song came on, it was absolute mayhem! Everyone clapping and jumping up on the wall, knocking things over, and just going wild, it's one of those memories that makes me smile. Those were good times.

    MSTRKRFT
    PlayEasy Love
After being innundated with that damn U.K. commercial for the new Motorola ROKR, my sister and I went on the hunt for the song, MSTRKRFT is the artist. This was just another one of their songs that I enjoyed while searching for the Moto commercial track (which will be in an upcoming volume).

    Judas Priest
    PlayElectric Eye
Another Rock Band track that I enjoy playing on drums. I 100% once, probably on a fluke, and have not been able to achieve the same since...Must practice...

    Lewis Black
    PlayThe End of the Universe
I'm not exactly sure how things work here in the U.K., but in the States, we hate Starbucks. Europeans had the idea when it came to great coffee, and the Starbucks Co. in Seattle bastardized said cup of joe. We may drink it a lot, (I have seen my credit card itemization at the end of the year, I've spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars there) but that doesn't mean we don't hate the conglomerate. Lewis Black puts it very simply, and this track cracks me up every time. I have lived on a street corner with 3 Starbucks all facing each other. It's creepy.

    Placebo
    PlayEvery You Every Me
I loved Placebo before the angsty emo kids found out they were cool and emo about 10 years ago! It's crazy to think they've been around that long. I love this song, especially when it signals opening credits for Cruel Intentions because that's a fantastic movie.

    Mazzy Star
    PlayFade Into You
Great 90's track. I didn't know the name of this artist until I found a different song and ended up listening to all their tracks. Love her vocals.

    Joe Cocker
    PlayFeelin' Alright
Truly a 'feel good' song. It suits it's title. I've always enjoyed Joe's stuff, 'You Can Leave Your Hat On' being my favorite, but I heard this track on an episode of 'House' and I remembered how much I like it.

    Joss Stone
PlayFell In Love With A Boy
Fell in love with Joss Stone when I did my solo journey to Rome a few years back. I was so excited just to be in Italy, I was up day and night for a week. All night I watched MTV, and this video was really popular at the time. I had never heard of her til' then. I must say I like the White Stripes version, but I love Joss's even more.

    Peggy Lee
    PlayFever
My grandma always said I was born in the wrong decade. I love love LOVE classic 50's and older music. 'Fever' has been a sexy song for what 50 years now, and Peggy Lee's version is the only version I will ever recognize. No one will reproduce her sultry voice.

    Eva Cassidy
    Fields Of Gold
Eva has long since passed, but her rendition of this song is my favorite to date. She gives a whole new softness to the song, plus I just don't like Sting. Never trust a man named after something most people try to avoid in their daily lives.

    Christina Aguilera
    PlayFighter
Once again another good chick-power song. I think Christina has a beautiful voice, but this song is definitely not her best. Still good when you wanna kick some ass.

    Modest Mouse
    PlayFloat On
I just enjoy Isaac Brock's vocals. They are so not normal...

    Boston
    PlayForeplay/Long Time
And yet another exciting Rock Band track. Believe me when I say that these Rock Band songs are not new to me in the slightest, I'm just interested in the songs I started to favor after playing drums. P.S. This song is not easy.

    Lynyrd Skynyrd
    PlayFree Bird
No lie, I blew the speakers in my car because I got way to riled up listening to this song. There's a reason people shout this from the crowds of a concert...1. to see if the band they love so dearly can make it through even half of this song, or 2. to hear an awesome fucking guitar solo for 87 minutes.

    30 Seconds To Mars
    PlayFrom Yesterday
Tied for my favorite 30STM song. My absolute favorite music video of theirs. Half nakie Jared, I mean come on. I love his visible tenseness while singing in that video. And I love watching Shannon's movements when he drums. Ok now I gotta go watch it before I move on...

    CapaRezza
    PlayFuori dal tunnel
This was another top song in Italy when I travelled to Rome. The video is incomprehensible, but the song is so much fun and I have to be honest I've sampled Italian rap since then, and I like it.

    Lloyd
    PlayGet it Shawty (Main)
I don't think I ever even heard of Lloyd until his song was used on a dance show in the States. I haven't had the chance to sample the rest of his tracks yet, but this one is pretty damn good, I love dancing to it.

    Missy Elliott
    PlayGet Ur Freak On
'Summertime' song, I enjoyed driving through the parking lot at school, just blaring this song as loud as I could. No idea why. But the track is so much fun.

    The Rolling Stones
    PlayGimme Shelter
When Merry Clayton gets all into her lyrics in this song, and she does that high pitched sexy squeel, I get goosebumps every time. You have to listen to the entire track in order to hear it, but you have to go listen to it right now to know what I'm talking about.

    George Strait
    PlayGive It Away
Ok hopefully half of everyone reading has found 'Gimme Shelter' and will forget to come back. I'm joking, I'm not that ashamed of my country taste. I really like the fun songs, or the horribly sad ones. This song is of the latter variety, I really just enjoy listening to his voice. I'm from TX he's from TX, I feel at home.

    Portishead
    PlayGlory Box
It's not only the music, but it's the lyrics that hold me so tightly to this song. 'So tired, of playing, playing with this bow and arrow' sums up my relationship feelings in one line. 'Give me a reason to love you, give me a reason to be...a woman' sums up my current feelings in two lines. It feels like sometimes I will just look for any reason to fall in love anymore, just because I hate dating so much. I know I'm like that, so I do a pretty good job of holding judgement until all the evidence has been presented, know what I mean? I would like a reason to be a woman though.

    Montgomery Gentry
    PlayGone
I wasn't too into country until I met the previous two main men in my life. The ex-boyfriend and the ex-boss, both of which shared the same first name. Spent almost the same amount of time with each, but it was my ex-boss who really loved this song and it grew on me. It's a 'I lost my truck and woman' song, but it's still great fun.

Ok so I hope you enjoyed this volume of my playlist. I'm averaging adding like 12 songs a day, so hopefully I'll be able to type faster than I can add.

    ~April TM

  • What was No.1 in the charts on the day you were born?

    11 Sep 2006, 15:51 by mieteck

It was my 25th birthday yesterday and I've got something special for you. Few months ago I found the page that shows you what was No.1 in the charts (UK & US) on the day you were born.
    http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/member/birthdayno1.php
A couple of days ago I found another, much better one...
    http://www.everyhit.com/dates/
...and I decided to make a list of songs that had been No.1s on every 10th of September since 1981.

I also found the archives of the most famous radio chart in Poland - the "Public Radio 3 Chart"...
