One of their songs called "Iag Bari" is soundtrack of "Gegen die Wand"! (the movie's director is the most popular Turk in Germany, Fatih Akın) as you watch it, you'll be fascinated!

As if "world" would be more descriptive. I'd rather put all the south-eastern european countries together in one tag together. I do think it describes that type of music much better than the tag "world" which unites music from the balkan region with music from east asia for example. That is pretty far off and despite all differences much farer off than e.g. romanian, serbian and macedonian music. Sorry for that!

@Yannis30: you are partly right. "Nothing to do with the balkans except from having almost the same music and popular culture", hmm, you'd better think again. And maybe listen to some genuine folk Romanian music, you'll see the difference. The tag itself, 'balkan', is confusing because the music tagged 'balkan' blends the cultural heritage of many countries, especially south-eastern European countries. I'd rather tag Fanfare Ciocarlia as 'world'.

@crckbtch : All I can say is that Bregovic's track
Kalasnjikov is a cover version of the traditional Romanian tune 'Ciocârlia' (which actually lends its name to the Fanfare). Here is Fanfare's version.
Maybe FC in turn borrowed some music from Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, i don't know.
@mattcobalta : isn't it? :)

As for the linguistic argument,the fact that Albania and Greece are not slavic speaking coutries doesn't stop them from being part of the Balkans.

Nothing to do with the balkans except from having almost the same music and popular culture, with a shared history tha goes back thousands of years. The balkans may be supposed to end on the river Danube, but culturally at least Romania is part of them.
