    1. What are you listening to right now?
    PlayFlathead - The Fratellis

    2. What song makes you sad?

    3. What is the most annoying song in the world?

    4. Your all time favorite band?

    5. Your newly discovered band is?
    The Last Shadow Puppets

    6. Best female voice?

    7. Best male voice?
Siempre dire: Michael Hutchence de INXS

    8. Music type you find yourself listening to most?

    15. Band that you think the world should love as much as you do?
    Babasónicos. Están absolutamente subestimados.

    16. Coolest music video?
Alright - Yeah... Uh Huh de The Rapture o American Boy de Estelle con Kanye West.

    17. Music video with the most babe watch?

    31. What do you think of Death metal?
Ya lo intenté, no va. Punto.

  • prognoza open'erowa.

    18 Jul 2008, 18:37 by pif-paf

    Do dzieła zatem.

    Zacznijmy od World Stage.
Reprezentacja polska: Kapela Ze Wsi Warszawa albo Village Kollektiv. Albo Yerba Mater.
I... gwiazda wieczoru... Panjabi MC! :D

    Namiot.
The Dresden Dolls, absolutnie!
Elektronika obowiązkowa - Matthew Herbert i Gus Gus. I Barbara Morgenstern, pasuje idealnie.
Do tego Pink Freud, Dr.No.

Z gatunku korzenie trip-hopu - Portishead, DJ Shadow, Tricky, Lamb, UNKLE, Air. Nie pogardzę nikim, wybieraj, AlterArcie!
Elektronicznie : Ladytron.
Kontynuując indie i okolice, tudzież singerów-songwriterów - poproszę Becka i Feist.
A, jeszcze jakiś soul/r'n'b. Alicia Keys albo Mary J. Blige i wszyscy zadowoleni. Albo Kelis, mry.
I coś rapującego. Mhm. Hm. W tej materii czuję się zagubiona, przyznaję. Ale OutKast przyjmę z aprobatą.
Uderzenie ekstremalne - The Prodigy :D

  • On Piracy And Downloading Music

    7 Jul 2008, 18:26 by konako

I know I'm going to get flamed on this :/. Feel free to give your own opinions on my views, but please don't start throwing around remarks about my mum or my upbringing. I was brought up in a family that revolved very much around law and all that, FYI.

Personally, I don't think piracy should be taken as seriously as it is right now (ie. picking one out of a million who download music off the internet [very likely a 13 year old who just downloaded LimeWire the week before] and suing them and threatening to sue more). Yes, piracy causes a loss in the revenue/profit of record labels and musicians, and it might discourage musicians from creating more music. But then again, think of it this way - though people may steal your music, they enjoy it. In the end, are you making music for the sake of music, or only for making money? Like NOFX, they do it for The Cause. Haha. Me, I would see piracy as a mean of gaining fans, not as a mean of losing money. If a fan really liked your music, which they downloaded, I think they would absolutely go out and buy your CD. They would also go to your shows when you're on tour. Would you hate your fans if they downloaded your music? Would you discourage your fans from listening to the tracks on your new CD which they downloaded? In the end, it's your music they appreciate, and not the fact that they stole an album off the interwebs.

If I were an artist, I would be absolutely flattered that someone saw my music as worth stealing.

I got to know all of my favorite bands through the internet, and inadvertently, piracy. Yeah. All those bands that you see on my Top Artists chart. Though I may have pirated their music, through listening to and enjoying their music, I have went out to the record store to buy their album(s).

Like what Thaoo said (read comment below), though you can pirate albums to sample music, you don't absolutely have to. If you chose not to pirate music, you can sample music for free on the internet instead, via sites like YouTube, Imeem and Last.fm (though sometimes/most of the time they're uploaded illegally onto said sites anyway :P). I have to agree that you don't have to pirate music to sample music from the internet, but sometimes, through piracy, you can get more material to listen to before you make up your mind about the band.

Come on. Would a 14 year old ever buy a Ramones/The Clash/NOFX/Metric CD, had she not found out about them and how their music was like? I don't think it's possible for someone to read about some obscure band on the internet and then immediately go out, and go out of their way to order an album of theirs, which may or may not be easily accessible (via the local record store).

Given the location where I live, how often would I come into contact with musical acts of such nature? Seriously. Had I not dug through the interwebs for pirated music, I would have never come to know of NOFX, AN CAFE, The Ramones, The Clash, and Sex Pistols, some of my most favorite bands. Without pirating music, I wouldn't have been able to get to know I wouldn't have been able to know bands that I've only been able to come across recently, such as BT, Brokencyde, Gotan Project, Circo, The Cinematic Orchestra and The Blue Seeds. And bands that I've never heard of, like Pantera (a metal band... actually, I think I've read a bit about them in Kerrang! many moons ago, but that was it), Sunn O))) (a metal band) and Ryoji Ikeda (ultra-minimalism artist). Come on.

Okay, I admit, I have seen traces of the musical cultures/scenes/fanbases that I happily consider myself a part of. I have seen a guy on the local TV channel wear a The Clash T-shirt. And, recently, in the lift of a local mall, I saw a woman with a Ramones T-shirt. I also spot J-Rockers in packs with their visual kei attire once every now and then (heck, I even know shops where I can get J-Rock attire). But that is about it. Do you honestly think that I will buy an album after seeing a guy/girl wearing a T-shirt of an obscure band that I don't know of? Really.

I'm not trying to encourage or promote piracy here, but I just think it shouldn't be viewed as seriously as it is right now.

    Further reading:
I think it's also important to take note of how bands and the music industry have responded to piracy and downloading music.

Two famous bands, both grammy-nominated and awarded, Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have chosen to take an ambitious approach to releasing their music. Radiohead self-released their album in rainbows as a digital download, letting their customers choose their own price. They also released it as a physical copy through their label, at a set price. NIN, on the other hand, released their album The Slip digitally on their website, for free. They released the album through their own self-created label, also offering it as a physical copy for a set price. There is no catch. It's a quality record, not just some throwaway. It's free. The album is there, available in a handful of file formats, even, and the only thing you need to offer is your e-mail address so they can send you the download link. As quoted from their site, they "encourage you to remix it, share it with your friends, post it on your blog, play it on your podcast, give it to strangers, etc."

This clearly shows that it is time for record companies to reconsider their stance on music downloading - in this day and age, no matter how much or how little, almost everyone with an internet connection downloads media of some sort. I really respect Radiohead and NIN for taking such an ambitious approach in releasing their music. They're truly creating music for the sake of music (and their fans :P), and not for the sake of earning revenue.

Download The Slip here (along with the first part of Ghosts I-IV, also free): http://www.nin.com ;)
  • Yeah, I'm talking to you!

    11 Jun 2008, 04:10 by scarebear

Are you up to the challenge? Well, to get some readers to this particular journal entry, I'm going to just throw out some random awesome artists, and some random comments about them. Even though that could be construed as something spamm-ish, technically it isn't. Because I am making commentary about them, which is really no different than 99.999999% of journals on last.fm.

    So, here goes...

So I just noticed that they often use songs in commercials that I was all geeked about 2 years ago. Three examples---
    Lupe Fiasco's "Daydreamin'"
    Gotan Project's "Epoch"
    and...
    um...
    that Fatboy Slim song.

The funny thing is, I was far behind some of my friends on last.fm.

Just heard a Nicole Atkins song. I had to add her to my my tag on the strength of one song.

    Ditto for Quiet Village.

I really wish I understood what's so cool about Lacuna Coil, because as good as they are, it's really hard to articulate why. Uniqueness, I guess. And talent. Amid the mass of gothic music, they do stand out, which is as difficult as being dead and decomposing, but somehow still relentlessly beautiful. I suppose like the autopsy photos of Marilyn Monroe? Okay, that's stretching it a bit, they're not nearly that extreme.

Okay, I frightened myself a little that time.

Ditto for Nightwish. Except that the analogy might actually fit them. Maybe that's why I can't always listen to a whole song of them, like looking at those Monroe photos for longer than a few moments.

Heard Bat For Lashes. Had to add her to my .

Fiona Apple, still love her madly. See her live if you can. Also, another artist to see live is The Detroit Cobras.

Okay, so now to the actual reason for this bloggy thingie.

There's a new tag called . Why this name? Because it's viral, and it's my gift to you, to do with what you want, as in "yours truly." It's contagious, in a good way. It's about artists that are unknown (at least on last.fm) who don't deserve to stay that way. Only one rule. An artist has to have less than 6,000 plays to be added. Okay, as they say, rules are meant to be broken, I just ask that you be reasonable about that one. Please?

When I listen to the global tag, I'll tag an artist who plays, that I like, with less than 6,000 plays, unless I feel compelled to add them anyway even though they have more plays.

So far, the tag is all over the place, Japanese rock, Mideastern music, African music, reggae, blues, country, electronica and American indie rock, and I hope it never gets full of any one kind of music. Here's who's on it as of today---
    Kaïssa
    Ghost of the Russian Empire
    Sufi Music Ensemble
    Nancy White
    Insect Surfers
    Mohammad Reza Shajarian
    asusen project
    Primrose
    Bagas Degol
    Jesse Pessoa
    Alla Rakha, Pulgat Raghu
Marco Brasil / Dombar and Donizete
    Montana Skies
Marcy Levy Band (a.k.a Marcella Detroit of Shakespeare's Sister, who looks frighteningly like my ex-girlfriend.)
    Gideon Freudmann
    Oztara
    Hamza Shakkur & Ensemble al-Kindi
    Abaji
    Pochill
    Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman / M.A Sundareswaran / E.M Subramaniam / Mattanur Sankaran Kutty / Porur Unnikrishnan / Srirangam S Kannan / N.Hariharan
    El Hadj N'Diaye
    Mansour Seck
    Majid Bekkas
    V.G. Jog
    Mississippi Jook Band
    Soliman Gamil
Ustad Alla Rakha and Zakir Hussain
    Kadda Cherif Hadria – Madanitche
    Rootz Underground
    Roberto Dalla Vecchia
    The Honkeys
    All Day Sucker
    The Limes
    Joel Smith
    Taxpayer

Or you can just wait around to be spoon-fed the artists you're supposed to like.

    Up to you.

Vamos a ver qué resulta.

A ver...

Estoy pensando y no me acuerdo...

    14.¿Coleccionas vinilo?
No. Pero pronto CathARTic Vinyl será lo último!

    15.¿Banda/Proyecto favorito?

    22.Album favorito de The Beatles?

    23. Ultima canción que bajaste?
Quiero Que Me Quieras de Kinky
