Pink Floyd

OK, the easy bit is getting a few solo albums of the key members, something any respecting Floyd fan wouldn’t be without:
Syd Barrett
Roger Waters
David Gilmour
I’ve not got anything by Richard Wright yet, so thats a priority.
Bit of a jump now to Blue Pearl, thanks to Durga McBroom one of the Floyd’s backing singers and half of them helping out on some tracks. I got to this point quite quickly as I was also tracing back The Orb members, and the other half of Blue Pearl is Youth, aka Martin Glover.
I won’t dwell on Mr. Glover here, I’ll leave that for The Orb Journal, nor will I go into too much detail on Guy Pratt, a session bassist and songwriter amongst other things, which again connect PF to The Orb and many other artists. A dilema here though, do I move into Producers?
Off on a tangent now, I picked up a few obscure remixes of PF, one being from a chap called Andrew Duke, another from VoV.
Tedious link now, I somehow heard of The Dark Side Of The Moog, I can’t really remember how I stumbled upon this group. The most probable is that I typed The Dark Side Of The Moon wrong into an internet search. However I did it, I was intrigued by the (at the time) 10 album series entitled with variations of Pink Floyd track names, such as Careful With The AKS, Peter Part I and Three Pipers at the Gates of Dawn Part I. This to me has been quite an ear-opener which led me to the Fax +49-69/450464 label and a huge amount of electronic/ambient music, most notably Pete Namlook, Klaus Schulze, Bill Laswell and Geir Jenssen.
Right, lets get back on track. Its time to admit it I got the Eric Prydz vs Floyd tune, all in the name of completism I might add.
Next discovery was the Zabriskie Point Soundtrack, featuring a few Floyd tracks as well as Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead. -

О Grateful Dead
24 Sep 2008, 10:14 by vardat

Discovery
6 Sep 2008, 18:38 by Thelonious9
I’ve just passed my first year on Lastfm. There are two great things about it – discovering new music and sharing it with other people (thanks for all the shouts in the past 12 months guys).
This got me thinking about other ways I’ve discovered music down the years. Here’s how I got into some acts that have stayed with me down the years (and a few I've left behind):
My older brothers handed down tapes led me to The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and The Moody Blues.
Borrowing from public libraries got me into Pere Ubu, The Velvet Underground, The Doors, Dory Previn and Bob Dylan.
Listening to Capital Radio in the late ‘70s, especially Nicky Horne and Peter Young led me to: John Cooper Clarke, Ian Dury, The Specials, Bruce Springsteen.
Friends mixtapes, especially in the ‘80s, gave me: Julian Cope, Magazine, The Monochrome Set, Marillion
From John Peel in the ‘80s I got too many to count but he’s where I first heard: The Fall (of course), Shop Assistants, Half Man Half Biscuit, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Nirvana, Ivor Cutler and John Fahey
Festivals and support slots have always held their surprises and led to my first encounters with (amongst others) Phranc, Robyn Hitchcock, Grandaddy and Tricky
These days, it’s BBC 6Music who’ve given me: Howling Bells, LCD Soundsystem, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Hot Chip.
And on to Lastfm: Grateful Dead (OK, I knew who they were but I’d never sat and listened), Okkervil River, TISM, Oingo Boingo, Al Stewart and who knows what next.
I can't wait to find out -
MrWinczakos - we haven't forgot about you!

it's 6 months since one of the most irritating trolls has been banned. and it seems now that epic lulz are gone with the new lastfm so let's all have a moment of silence in rememberance of the great persona he was!
I miss you MrWInczakos :(
ps old lastfm sucked.
ps2 new last fm sucks.
ps3 will there be another mighty troll just like him and R.I.P. Octember (also known as Strictly Diesel) and Pagan_Winter (also known as - too many names, cant remember them all)? who knows. maybe someday.
