Great Australian Albums
12 Sep 2008, 14:55 by BlackCoffeeDuck
On SBS last week and the next few weeks is a show about Great Australian Albums. So it got me thinking what other albums should have a doco made about them. So far they have made ones on The Go-Betweens’s 16 Lover Lane (Last week) and Tomorrow night at 10pm is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Murder Ballads and the next few weeks there is Hunters & Collectors and Powderfinger. Last year they did The Saints, Silverchair, The Triffids and Crowded House.
I picked out some great Aussie albums I would love see a doco made about. I think I’ll get the Nick Cave and The Saints ones on DVD maybe? Here’s a list of the next ten if I could pick them:
AC/DC’s debut album High Voltage. I can’t believe they haven’t done this one yet. Bon Scott, Angus Young and the boys are one of the greatest Aussie bands ever.
Augie March’s Moo, You Bloody Choir, if they have made a doco on Powderfinger and Silverchair why not Augie? I found out today they have a new album out soon, it will be hard to top Moo but knowing these guys they will.
Scientists’ Blood Red River, Kim Salmons early masterpiece or should it be Kim Salmon & the Surrealists’ Hit Me With The Surreal Feel or both? Why not?
Dirty Three’s self titled debut album is the one I would pick but it could be any of the other albums but most likely Ocean Songs or Cinder. To many great albums to pick just one.
Sarah Blasko’s What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have would be another newish album but I think it fits into great the Aussie albums. I really can’t wait for what she does next. She could just get better and better.
Hoodoo Gurus’s debut album Stoneage Romeos should have one too but their later albums are higher sellers so it with be about one of them if they do. I think Stoneage Romeos is their greatest though.
The Birthday Party’s debut album Prayers On Fire, this doco should have been made first before Murder Ballads.
Laughing Clowns’s Cruel, But Fair would be cool too but it will be one of Ed Kuepper’s solo albums most likely, which one? I can’t pick one.
Bluetile Lounge’s Lowercase should be more known but is not. I would call it one of the great album made in this country. I would make everyone listen to this band and this album is a great Australian album. Check them out.
The Drones’s Gala Mill would be one too. With a new album out soon, which I can’t wait for. This one is a classic but it could be To Wait By The River And The Bodies Of Your Enemies Will Float By. That is a classic too.
Anyway what do you think, what is your Great or Classic Aussie Albums??? -
