  • Delightful news from former Mazzy Star member Suki Ewers

    3 Jul 2008, 11:00 by DifferentStars

    Not only for me Mazzy Star is one of the most missed bands every. Their members seem to have the habit to vanish to spheres somewhere over the rainbow...BTW, what happened to Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions???? - miss her haunting voice...

    About one year ago Suki Ewers announced the release of her solo album and .....well....

    ....A lot of fans asked themselves what happened to this release - unfortunately for quite a while it seemed this mystery might remain unsolved.

    Finally Suki Ewers announced at her myspace that "Kind of Hazy" will be released 08-19-08 on mind expansion records.

    Here are some infos about her:

    Suki Ewers is former member of Opal and Mazzy Star. After performing for several years with Anemone Suki spent the last couple of years in the studio working with Joe Kennedy on her solo album "Kind Of Hazy".

    Haha, I'm pretty surprised at what's on here compared to what I thought would be on here. I have to take many things into account with this list. When I first got to last.fm, I kinda just enjoyed scrobbling for the sake of showing people what I was listening to that week.

    So, a lot of times I would just go to class or to a party for the weekend and would leave certain albums running the whole time. So that's where the Marilyn Manson, Kelli Ali, Bed Destroyers, RHCP, and Placebo plays came from.

    Then, a few artists I really like but only have one album by them (Boards of Canada, The Doors, Soundgarden).

    Other than that, everything is in its right place, aside from that long obsession with 30 Seconds To Mars.

    Leave me some comments!

  • "hidden" treasures + "memes" that spread like the plague

    7 May 2008, 02:12 by absolia

    I don't plan to do any more "memes" for like, a few months, at least. I found myself getting really redundant about music that is meaningful to me, thus cheapening it. I almost want to delete all that crap.

    At least it kept me occupied for a few hours..

    Did you know that the word "meme" is a totally bastardized and convoluted pseudo-word coined by Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene? His meaning and the meaning in which we use all over the internet have nothing to do with each other, though.

    Good songs you may-have or may-have-not heard before*:

    * Over the Edge by Hole (cover)

    * All I Want by Echo & the Bunnymen

    * PlayJynweythek Ylow by Aphex Twin

    * All We Ever Wanted Was Everything by Bauhaus

    * PlayTears by The Chameleons

    * Ivo by Cocteau Twins

    * PlayBavarian Fruit Bread by Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions

    * Specialist by Interpol

    * PlayCanary by Liz Phair

    * Poison Moon by Mary Timony

    * Welcome Home (Sanitarium) by Metallica

    * PlayChloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns by Mother Love Bone

    * PlayDazzle by Siouxsie and the Banshees

    * PlaySaturnine & PlaySoot and Stars by The Smashing Pumpkins

    * Muhammed My Friend by Tori Amos [but live with Maynard James Keenan] & Sugar [both live and studio] & Cruel (live) [from To Venus and Back]

    * Pumpkin by Tricky [samples Suffer]

    * PlayLa valse d'Amelie (version orc by Yann Tiersen
