• petit survey musical

17 May 2007, 22:01 by riclaude

1. which bands/artist do you own the most albums by?

2. what was the last song you listened to?
Robeur de Fred Fortin.

3. what's in your cd player right now?

4. what was the last show you attended?
The Arcade Fire!!!
dimanche dernier, à l’aréna maurice-richard.

5. what was the greatest show you've ever been to?
No Doubt au parc jean-drapeau en juin 2000, avec gwen qui escalade les structures de métal sur le côté de la scène pour y chanter;
Les Cowboys Fringants au cabaret music-hall dans le cadre de leur tournée montréalaise en décembre 2002;
Fred Fortin au spectrum en décembre 2004 (premier show après la sortie de planter le décor, première fois que j’ai entendu ...que je t’étranglerai... live);
Ben Harper en set intime (100-150 spectateurs?) et acoustique au savoy du métropolis en avril 2006 (PlayAnother Lonely Day et PlayPlease bleed = ♥!);

6. what's the worst show you've ever been to?

7. what's the most musically involved you have ever been?

8. what show are you looking forward to?

10. what is your favorite band shirt?

11. what musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
hum. mike skinner (The Streets)!

12. who is one musician or group you wish would make a comeback?

13. who is one band/artist you've never seen live but always wanted to?

14. name 4 or more flawless albums:
1. Buena Vista Social Club
2. Burn to Shine (Ben Harper)
3. Bâtards sensibles (TTC)
4. Dummy (Portishead)
5. Le dôme (Jean Leloup)

15. how many music related videos/dvds do you own?

16. how many concerts/shows have you been to, total?

17. who have you seen the most live?
j’ai vu Les Cowboys Fringants 40 fois (oui oui..).
suivent l’orchestre country-western canadien français st-sipoplette (12 fois), Omnikrom et Dumas (11 fois), Loco Locass (10 fois), Malajube (9 fois), Fred Fortin (8 fois), Jean Leloup et Lindy (7 fois).

18. what is your favorite movie soundtrack?
Y Tu Mama Tambien!

19. what was your last musical "phase" before you wisened up?

20. what's your "guilty pleasure" that you hate to admit to liking?
j’aime bien Isabelle Boulay, tiens.

• And it's back to Scrobbling!

8 Jan 2007, 22:22 by Sutoko

Ahhh, it's my first official week back, and as you probably don't know, it's been a difficult journey. A terribly difficult journey. You see, way back when, a very long time ago, my computer crashed, and along with it my (not very) extensive musical collection.

So, it took quite a while to get most (if not all) my music back, and I'm back to scrobbling again! I'm just here to review what my first week back to this was like.

1. Opeth

Obviously, I mean, c'mon. Out of all those weeks that I've scrobbled, Opeth comes up first almost every time. The only time I can recall that it didn't was probably that week I went to the Reel Big Fish concert. That was great. Anyway, back on track. Mikael Akerfeldt is a God. This cookie monster growls and the lyrics and the music all blends in so well together. Oh and the clean vocals of course. I mean, it's like... magic in my headphones. =D

Favourite Mellow Tracks:

PlayBenighted
In My Time of Need

Favourite Heavy Tracks:

Deliverance
Master's Apprentices

2. Rilo Kiley

Wooooooo. Rilo Kiley! Oh wait.. I just saw that connections picture, Rilo Kiley is a band?? I thought it was one singer... let's look 'em up. Yes, Rilo Kiley is actually a band. I learned something new today. Heh, and I was just about to say how I didn't know much about her. Er.. them. Anyway, my first song from them is PlayPortions for Foxes. It's pretty catchy, BUT my current favourite is PlayDoes He Love You. It's very nice. Kind of country-ish, but that doesn't bother me. =D

3. Sonata Arctica

Ahhh, the Finnish power metal band. Cheesy love songs, stereotypical power metal, but they are just so good at that. Catchy love songs in a power metal-esque style. They're very fun. I went to one of their concerts back in January (2006) and it was pretty fun. Lots of energy, though Tony Kakko (I think that's his name), the lead singer, messed up the lyrics several times. But all in all, it was a fun night. I didn't really get to mosh though.. uh.. yeah. The end. =D

4. Jean Leloup

Yay! Jean Leloupppp. A Quebecois legend. Very folk-y, very fun. I dunno what to say about him. Jean Leloup = Jean The Wolf. He was born Jean Leclerc and Leloup was his stage name. But then "Jean Leloup" died. He killed the stagename and vowed never to use it again. I think he's writing screenplays now. Odd thing is, I bought an Le Trashy Saloon, another Quebecoise artist, and I was reading the CD jacket, and you know what I saw? The name Jean Leloup. Though, I should probably check Leloup's deathdate and the release of Anik Jean's album. Let's do that now...
Released: November 29, 2004
Leloup's Deathdate: December 19th, 2003

Ah-ha! I've uncovered something. Maybe? Well maybe not, because he did collaborate with several Quebec artists under the name "Jean Leloup" in August 2005 for an album called Les Porn Flakes.

5. John Mayer

Mmm.. John Mayer. I got interested after I heard some recordings of his little side-project band John Mayer Trio. And then I bought Continuum. OHMY It is lovely. My favourite song off the album is PlaySlow Dancing In A Burning Room, but seriously, all of the songs are good. (Except for PlayGravity, the John Mayer Trio version of the song is much better.)

5. Bloodhound Gang

Ahh, reknowned for their song PlayThe Bad Touch, I recently got back in touch with their music. Very catchy stuff. The BEST track though, is PlayUhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss. OHMY. This track is beyond catchy. Lovely bass line (I'm a sucker for bass) and the lyrics are fun. I'd recommend this track to anyone. :3

5. OK Go

Aww. OK Go. Internet famous for their choreographed dances for PlayA Million Ways and PlayHere It Goes Again. Anyway, my friends and I recreated the dance for A Million Ways at a show for the school. It was great. I didn't realilze that I was listening to them so much. :3 Well.. 4 tracks isn't a lot. Anyway! Guess what?! I'm NOT going to an OK Go and Snow Patrol concert. The tickets are sold out. What a pissoff. D:

5. Brand New

Before the crash of my computer, I never really listened to them. I only had two songs:
PlayThe Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows
and Jude Law And The Semester Abroad.

They were catchy, but they never really caught my attention. Though, I recently discovered another song off their newest CD, oh dearie me, it's so nice. It's kind of Modest Mouse-esque. A mellow track, very nice. PlayJesus Christ. There was some contraversy as to whether the song was called "Jesus" or "Jesus Christ". Unfortunately, I didn't follow the argument.

5. Reel Big Fish

A-ha! Reel Big Fish! Hello there! A nice ska band. I went to see them back in July, and if you're interested, you can check out the journal after this, if you ever finish reading this that is. I dunno what to say about them, they're very catchy. :3

10. Nguyen Thang

Ahhh, Nguyen Thang. A Vietnamese vocalist that .. I dunno, sings in Vietnamese. He sings english too. Very nice voice, and he sings sappy love songs. It's all good. Like many vietnamese artists, he does a lot of covers, and he does them well, for the most part.

And that is the end for this week. And only two metal bands. I don't even listen to that much metal, so I don't know why I brought that up. I think my music interests have shifted a bit. I mean, I don't listen to bands that I used to listen to a lot much anymore. Not to say I don't. But not as much as I used to. Namely:
Muse
Modest Mouse
Streetlight Manifesto

Yes, I think that's enough. xD Have fun scrobbling and finding new stuff and whatever else you do on last.fm.

Alright, why not (as if you'd find this interesting anyway !):

Name your top 10 most played bands on Last.fm:

1 The Cure
2 Pierre Lapointe
3 Robbie Williams
4 Les Respectables
5 Michael Bublé
6 Darren Hayes
7 Queen
8 Savage Garden
9 -M-
10 Jean Leloup

(Wow, I can't believe Darren Hayes got before Queen o_O)

Now answer the questions according to the numbers:

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
Darren Hayes alone, it was probably Insatiable.

What is your favourite album of 2?
Hard to say, and there is only two... both are differents and very good !! I'd say the first one called 'Pierre Lapointe' (how original :) )

What is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
I don't know...

0 :(

What is your favourite song by 7?
There's too many ! pffft...
Don't stop me now, You take my breath away, Love of my life, Good old fashioned lover boy... ok I'll stop there... for now anyway :p

Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
Nan's Song is pretty sad. Heaven's From Here.

What is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
"Tu peux jeter la pierre, moi je ne sentirai rien, car je suis fait de glace oh, je suis fait de glace. À force de tomber l'âme trop épuisée j'ai fini par comprendre que tout malaise ce passe... que tout malaise se passera"
In english, something like this : "You can throw the rock, I won't feel a thing, because I am made of ice, oh I am made of ice. By dint of falling, soul too tired, I finally understood that all discomfort passes, that all discomfort will pass."

What is your favourite song by 9?
I really like Machistador [Extented], Mama Sam, Jam a la me

How did you get in to 3?

What is a good memory you have concerning 2?
When I saw him in Festival d'été de Québec last summer

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
Not really... Gunning Down Romance, maybe if I'm already sad when I hear it :)

What is your favourite album of 5?
Michael Bublé (I don't like It's Time :( )

What is your favourite lyric that 3 has sung?
There are so may, I'll go with these:
"You're one of God's better people and you don't know that's why you're special"

How many times have you seen 8 live?
0. They weren't even a band anymore when I started listening to them lol

What is your favourite album of 1?
Probably Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me

Wow, this is kind of hard to do ! For something that useless... what a waste of energy ! lol
