Though he was active before 1955, his prime years were between 1955 and 1967, during which time he reshaped modern jazz and influenced successive generations of other musicians. The music recorded during this time period ranges from some of the most influential hard bop of the 50s into increasingly atonal explorations which eventually end up in the free jazz of his late period. It is undoubtable that his most popular music is that of the late 50s and early 60s. The music recorded after this period is very challenging to the listener, though its importance and influence cannot be denied. Coltrane’s recording rate was astonishingly prolific, such that many albums did not appear until years after they were recorded.
He is regarded as one of the most important and influential jazz musicians, and one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century. Along with tenor saxophonists Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young and Sonny Rollins, Coltrane fundamentally altered expectations for the instrument.

lol this jazz sometimes makes me think of those american softcore porn movies, where there always have sex in slowmotion and have a tiny sound of jazz in the background, the kind of films where the men are always muscular and working in an office, where the secretary always cheer them up and where the dick never goes in but just rubs against the ass so it looks like it

Buy the vinyl and download the album - CD's are pretty much worthless, everything is starting to become more digitized with the advent of mp3 players (in the next couple of years they'll be gone). Vinyl (even if it's only a reissued copy) on the other hand is still worth it - they're like a piece of art.
