John McLaughlin (born 4th January 1942), also Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, is a guitarist from Yorkshire, England. He came to prominence with the electric group of Miles Davis in the late 1960s, and with other well-known players such as Chick Corea and Tony Williams.

Although his main fame is bound up with his work in the field of jazz-rock fusion, McLaughlin’s career has included many projects and a wide range of different styles. Aside from small-group jazz, he has led such groups as the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti, and The Guitar Trio. (read more)
