Kissinger is Chopper (lead vocals, guitar, songwriting), Otto “o3” von Foxrock II III (drums), Steve Garvey (lead guitar, backing vocals, keys), and H. Luther White (bass), who replaced former bassist Lucky in 2007.
Kissinger (who takes their name from none other than Henry Kissinger) released their first 7” single, Consider Bridgette, in 1998. Producer John Croslin (Pavement, Spoon, Guided by Voices) heard the songs, and signed the band to WCI Records to record Charm. The album debuted locally in 2000, and was rerelased in 2004 to a wider market.
In 2002 the band took over ownership of WCI Records and released Rock and Roll Ain’t Cheap, an interactive EP with 4 songs, 4 short films and 4 live music videos directed by Hip Williams (Mates of State, The Mooney Suzuki).
Kissinger’s second full-length album, Me and Otto, was released on May 10, 2005. Later in 2005, Kissinger won the Austin Music Fondation’s Incubator contest, which allowed them money and studio time to complete a new record. Meanwhile, two songs from Charm were used on the television show Veronica Mars: Gold Rush and Girl on the Bus.
Originally slated for a fall 2007 release, Kissinger’s third full length album, UNDERWATER was recently pushed back to a April 2008 due to delays in the artwork process. Not wishing for their fans to wait that long between releases Kissinger announced that they will be releasing a digital single, Sydney Stone, in October 2007.
