Travis Stewart’s hip-hop inspired work is done under the alias of Machine Drum, on the Merck record label. His album “Now You Know” received critical acclaim from outlets such as Pitchfork Media in 2001; an excerpt of their review is provided below.

“This album is 70 minutes of street-smart, book-smart, beat-smart genius that melds caffeinated 8-bit dancefloor rhythms with sordid ghetto melodies and a shadowy sense of urban nostalgia.”

Fans and critics alike are quick to note stylistic comparisons to other artists. “Brings to mind Boards Of Canada, Push Button Objects and the deep sound scapes of Autechre” said User “autechred” on the website Discogs.

Machine Drum followed the release of “Now You Know” with the remix album “Half the Battle” in 2002, which contained reworkings of “Now You Know” material by electronic music contemporaries such as Brothomstates and labelmate Ilkae. Later in the year he released his second album as Machine Drum entitled “Urban Biology”. His 2004 LP “Bidnezz” was followed by a 2CD remix album entitled “Mergerz and Acquisitionz” in March of 2006.

Travis also records under the aliases Syndrone and Tstewart.
