  • Guess the lyrics 8! [Afgesloten]

    13 Aug 2008, 22:42 by __SheBrokeAway

    1.
You know I dreamed about you
For twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for, for twenty-nine years

    2.
If I'm an island then your mind is off of me
If I'm an island then you're the darkest sea

    3.
I almost thought you stopped talking to me
Your call came like a wave of relief
    I'm such a lucky mess
    I just need some rest

    4.
    And the night you came
You won me all and all
And the better part of everything
    Was born to run

    5.
    I'll make you mine
Keep you apart deep in my heart
    Separate from the rest
Where I like you the best
And keep the things you forgot

    6.
Suddenly you spread from my hands
Far away you've drummed in my mind

    7.
    'Cause I want you
    It truly is that simple
But you want to go back
    It makes my whole world
Crash down just feel so black

    8.
    You may ask yourself
    Is there anyone so alone?
But there's no beep before the dial-tone
When you pick it up to see who called
If there is, it's probably your mom

    9.
Shoot the best for a little love
    It's all you're thinking of

    10.
I would dig a thousand holes
    To lay next to you
I would dig a thousand more
    If I needed to

    11.
    Thought we were devoid
A change or two around this place
When they get back they're all mixed up
With no one to stay with

    12.
If I could be, I’d be someone better
Someone to kiss a little bit more
If I could draw, I’d draw you closer
Lock you inside, and shut the door

    13.
    You're part time lover
    And a full time friend

    14.
I will decide tomorrow after sunset
    Your safety's intact
Will you be there to catch me if I'm falling?
You sneak through the back room door

    15.
    Over and over again
I tried to be the one for you
    More than anyone
    More than anyone

  • 'Juno' (2007, Jason Reitman)

    27 Feb 2008, 01:25 by BS1der

    Juno
    2007, Jason Reitman

When I first heard of Juno, I thought it was going to be a cool little film, but to remain a relatively unknown indie flick. I was proven wrong: Following me first seeing the trailer for it, Juno ended up #1 on Roger Ebert's Best of 2007 list, its script won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and as of Feb. 25, 2008, the $6.5 million film has made $130,763,380.

And after seeing it, I'm not surprised of all that. OK, I am a little surprised Roger Ebert could appreciate it as much as he did, but the box office succes and the Academy Award make sense: Juno's perfect screenplay -- penned down by ex-stripper-turned-first-time-screenwriter Diablo Cody -- is fit for a large audience and truly Oscar-worthy.

Juno is a quirky, uplifting film about sixteen-year-old Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page), who, after beautifully (not) shown sex with her friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera), discovers she is nine weeks pregnant.
Finding telling her parents (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) the hardest part, she goes to an abortion clinic, where she decides last-minute to have the baby, only to put it up for adoption. In a newspaper ad, Juno and her best friend Leah (Olivia Thirbly) find a couple who they think will be good parents for Juno's child, and after telling her parents, she and her father visit the couple to make the adoption arrangements: Juno's child will be adopted by Mark and Vanessa Loring (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner) -- married, rich but unable to have children.
The "deal is done", and the remaining months of Juno's pregnancy come by. But are all involved parties ready for the baby to arrive?

There's one word that comes up when I think of Juno: Cute.
And no, I do not mean that in a "nice-try" sort of way.
I mean it in a way to say Juno is a brilliant, sweet little gem of a film.
Ellen Page is great as the intelligent and cynical but optimistic teenager Juno, backed up by a universally superb supporting cast -- with Michael Cera deserving special mentioning for his beautifully natural performance as the clumsy Paulie.

Let me also mention the film's awesome soundtrack, consisting mostly of acoustic guitar-based (love) songs by artists such as Kimya Dawson, Buddy Holly, Belle and Sebastian, Cat Power, Antsy Pants, The Velvet Underground and some original music by Mateo Messina.
And ofcourse there's "Nobody Else But You" by The Moldy Peaches -- also performed in the film by Michael Cera & Ellen Page --, somehow perfectly capturing the film's general mood of cuteness.

Founded on Diablo Cody's solid gold screenplay, and with beautiful cinematography by (the till now unknown) Eric Steelberg, enchanting music and a great cast, director Jason Reitman has delivered a beautiful little baby girl.
    Her name is Juno.
