There is more than one artist with this name:

1) Nico (1938?-1988) was a model, actress, singer, and songwriter, releasing six solo albums after her departure from The Velvet Underground. She was born Christa Paffgen in Germany, but later moved to New York to pursue acting. She eventually became part of Andy Warhol’s infamous “Superstar” clique and began singing. She played a prominent role in The Velvet Underground’s early success, and though she was never officially a member of the band, she was a major contributor to the album “The Velvet Underground & Nico”, featuring the legendary “banana” cover designed by Andy Warhol. The album has been named by numerous publications as one of the top 100 albums of all time, and is often considered one of history’s 10 most influential albums by critics. In the 70’s and 80’s, after the decline of Warhol’s “Factory”, Nico continued to record, releasing over a dozen albums in those two decades. She also battled an addiction to heroin for nearly 20 years. In the late 80’s she stopped using heroin and began to adopt a more active lifestyle. This new life ironically led to her tragic death: on July 18th, 1988, at the age of 49, Nico died in a hospital in Ibiza - the result of a brain hemorrhage after being found lying unconscious by the side of her bicycle. She was buried in Germany.

2) Nico is the alias of US techno / acid / rave producer Nicolai Vorkapich. Died prematurely in 1999 of cancer.

3) Nico (Nicoleta Matei) is a known Romanian singer. She’ve participated in last few Romanian preselections to ESC and finally she was choosen in 2008 to represent Romania with song “Pe-o margine de lume” with Vlad Mirita. They have passed the semifinals, but in final they had no succesful place.

I have the NICO ICON vhs tape, it paints a pretty grotesque picture of Nico. I can listen to C.G. and Marble Index but everything else she touched outside of the VU is awful. and VU is so much better with her out of the picture.
