  • My own list of songs in odd times signatures

    30 Jul 2008, 21:50 by No-Bullet

Well, this is my list of songs in odd times signatures. This list doesn't have any references and it's built almost entirety with prog rock songs, and since I don't have any studies in music, if you spot something wrong, or have any contribution, let me know. I consider "odd time" to everything that's not either a 4/4 or a 6/8 time. Although i'm a prog rock fan, this list is not intended to have listed all the meter changes in a 20 minute epic, I prefer this list to have "mainstream songs" that are easier to listen to.

The list is divided in "septuple meters" (like 7/8 and 7/4), "quintuple meters" (like 5/4 and 10/4) and "multiple meters".

    Septuple meters:
    1971 - "PlayThe Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)" (Yes - Fragile) - 7/8
    1972 - "PlaySiberian Khatru" (Yes - Close to the Edge) - verses: 4 + 4 + 4 + 3
1973 - "PlayMoney" (Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon) - 7/8
    1973 - "The Ocean" (Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy) - main riff: 4 + 4 + 4 + 3
    1973 - "Tubular Bells" (Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells) - first riff: 4 + 3 + 4 + 4
1973 - "PlayThe Battle of Epping Forest" (Genesis - Selling England by the Pound) - intro and verses: 7/4
1974 - "PlayBack in N.Y.C." (Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) - verses and bridges: 7/8
    1976 - "PlaySolsbury Hill" (Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel) - 7/4
    1977 - "PlayXanadu" (Rush - A Farewell to Kings) - intro: 7/4
    1978 - "PlayCircumstances" (Rush - Hemispheres) - bridge: 4 + 3 + 4 + 3 + 4 + 3 (this song must have more odd times signatures but i'm too lazy count the whole guitar solo)
    1980 - "PlayThe Spirit of Radio" (Rush - Permanent Waves) - bridge: 7/4 + 7/4 + 7/4 + 8/4
    1981 - "PlayTom Sawyer" (Rush - Moving Pictures) - solos: 7/8

  • DMB/West Palm/07.12.08 - Outstanding!

    24 Jul 2008, 05:28 by dj_edge

Sat 12 Jul – Dave Matthews Band

Dave and band put on a fantastic show this second night in West Palm. Bella Fleck's Jeff Coffin sat in for injured LeRoi and Tim Reynolds also joined in. DMB covered Pink Floyd's PlayMoney, Barrett Strong's Money (Thats What I Want) and closed with Sly & The Family Stone's PlayThank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin). Their own songs were tight, lengthly and jammin. Many have commented that the Friday night show was equally as awesome or better and the favorite evening seems to come down to which DMB songs the commenter likes best. Hopefully, these two shows will be released as a Live Trax Volume CD in the future.

  • Listening Through All of My Albums: #140 - Dark Side Of The Moon (Pink Floyd)

    10 Jul 2008, 12:18 by andyfest

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd

What do you say about one of the best selling albums of all time? I like Dark Side of the Moon as much as most fans of classic rock I guess. I've always thought PlayMoney seemed a little out of place and probably would have fit better on Wish You Were Here along side PlayWelcome to the Machine and PlayHave a Cigar but that's hindsight and it's not like Pink Floyd were going to hold on to the song until they made the perfect album to fit it or anything.

I like listening to Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety, but I'm fairly sick of many of the individual tracks (PlayMoney, PlayTime, etc.) due to over-play on classic rock radio.

Pink Floyd w trójkę nagrali jeszcze 2 studyjne albumy i dwa koncertowe.

    Pink Floyd - Money

    Money, get away.
Get a good job with more pay and you're okay.
    Money, it's a gas.
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team.

    Money, get back.
I'm all right jack keep your hands off of my stack.
    Money, its a hit.
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit.
I'm in the high-fidelity first class traveling set
And I think I need a lear jet.

    Money, it's a crime.
Share it fairly but dont take a slice of my pie.
    Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.
But if you ask for a raise it's no surprise that theyre
    Giving none away.

Huhuh! I was in the right!
    Yes, absolutely in the right!
I certainly was in the right!
You was definitely in the right. that geezer was cruising for a
    Bruising!

    Yeah!

    Why does anyone do anything?
I dont know, I was really drunk at the time!
I was just telling him, he couldnt get into number 2. he was asking
Why he wasn't coming up on freely, after I was yelling and
Screaming and telling him why he wasn't coming up on freely.
It came as a heavy blow, but we sorted the matter out

Roger Waters - The Dark Side of the Moon

Syd Barrett.

Dark Side of the Moon!

PlayTime, PlayThe Great Gig in the Sky, PlayMoney, PlayUs and Them....

PlayAnother Brick In The Wall (Part II), Hey You, Comfortably Numb и концерт закончился.
