    Aufwachen: Traumfrau

    Nervenzusammenbruch: Get Psycho

    Entdeckt:

    Bleed Like Me

(ER taucht auf, entdeckt, dass P. verantwortlich ist, nimmt ihr die Utensilien weg und rennt mit ihr zum Auto)

Without looking at the below questions, type your top ten favourite artists.

    1 Placebo
    2 Manic Street Preachers
    3 The Raintree
    4 The Strokes
    5 The Horrors
    6 The Birthday Party
    7 Bright Eyes
    8 My Chemical Romance
    9 David Bowie
    10 Indochine

Q: What was the first song you heard by #2 [The Manics]?
I'm going to say it was PlayYou Love Us. I'm not if that's completely correct, but I do know that the first song I heard was off the Generation Terrorists album.

Q: What is your favourite album by #6 [The Birthday Party]?
Definitely Junkyard. Not only was it the first album I heard by them, but it also has some of my favourite songs on it.

Q: What is your favourite lyric of #7 [Bright Eyes]?
I have quite a few, actually.
The apple fell and taught us all, we are chained here to the ground. So here we go, but there ain't no escape. Yeah, these streets they're just dead ends. So I won't ever be happy again.
    &
When everything is lonely, I can be my own best friend.
    &
And now I've read some books and I've grown quite brave. If I could just speak up, I think I would say that there is no truth. There is only you and what you make the truth.
    &
All this death must need a counterweight, all someone born again. First a mother bathes her child, then the other way around. The Scales always find a way to level out.
    &
It's an old world. It's hard to remember. Like a dime store mystery. And I'm a repeat, first-time offender who has rewritten history.

Q: What is your favourite song by #9 [Bowie]?
That's unfair. Because Bowie's like. I mean. He's Bowie, you know? He is the ever-changing artist. Well. I've always loved PlayLife On Mars?, PlayCracked Actor, and PlayFive Years. As for his more recent (read: '90s and '00s) work, I'd have to say PlayThe Heart's Filthy Lesson.

Q: Is there a song of #1 that makes you sad [Placebo]?
PlayMy Sweet Prince would be the obvious choice, I'm sure, but. I've never felt sadden by the song particularly. Not to say that it isn't sad, because it most certainly is. I just. I don't know. It's a stunning song, and it can be depressing, of course. With Brian's vocals that just fucking ooze despair and depression, but. It's not that song for me.

And, oh god, the lyrics to The the Clouds Will Open for Me are awfully distressing. But that's still not it.

The song that gives me chills and makes my eyes well-up would have to be PlaySpecial Needs. It's not even slow, and I don't think that it's meant to be sad, but it makes my chest ache.

But sadness can be very subjective (I suppose), and the lyrics to PlayMy Sweet Prince about heroin and being the only one, don't really get me worked up. There's something about the way Brian sings "Remember me, special needs" and "Just 19, a sucker's dream. I guess I thought you had the flavour." that makes me feel like someone stabbing me in the gut and twisting the knife repeatedly.

When played live, slowed down and with a piano, PlayTeenage Angst can also give me goosebumps. It's all in the way he sings the lyrics, not even the lyrics themselves. It's the sadness that you hear through his voice, that really does it.

Q: What is your favourite song by #8 [My Chemical Romance]?
I'll be honest, I'm very keen on Desert Song. It's a very slow song, and it's sounds almost nothing like MCR. But it's an amazing song.

Q: What is your favourite song by #10 [Indochine]?
You see, they've been making music since 1981. That makes it quite difficult to choose a favourite. So I won't. However, as a whole I love the Paradize album. In my opinion, it's of the best albums ever made.

Q: What is your favourite album by #8 [My Chemical Romance]?
I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, no question. It's a very raw record.

Q: How did you get into #5 [The Horrors]?
Right, well. I've always been into old-school psychedelic punk music. (Because if you look at music like that, from the '60s and '70s, compared to the music scene today, it's just different.) Anyway. I collect vinyl. Well, as much as I can afford. And we have an old record store downtown where I spend a lot of my free time. I’m pretty good friends with the owner’s son, who tends to be in there all the time. And towards the end of 2006 he played me the PlayDeath at the Chapel single in the shop. He said he thought it would be something that I would like. And. Well. I've been hooked ever since.

Q: What is your favourite song by #4 [The Strokes]?
That's difficult. Vision of Division and Trying Your Luck contain some of my favourite Julian Casablacas-written lyrics. I'm also very partial to I Can't Win.

But, overall, it's going to be Razorblade. The lyrics are phenomenal, as is the guitar. And Jules' voice is top notch in this song. Plus, they used a tambourine. How amazing is that?

Q: Who is your favourite member of #1 [Placebo]?
That’s unfair. You see. There’s only two of them. If there were, I don’t know, five members in the band it would be easier to pick a favourite. Maybe. But there’s only two. And they are two people you do not try to separate or compare, if that makes any sense.

You’ve got Brian. Who’s intelligent and beautiful beyond belief. He has a strange yet beautiful, captivating voice. He writes lyrics that reach into your heart and claw it apart, from the inside out. And then there’s Stef. He’s reserved and just a little shy, but confident and gorgeous all at once. And he plays bass like no one else.

I just can’t choose. Ngh. This makes me miss Steve.

Q: What does #9 remind you of [Bowie]?
Shawn. Because David Bowie was probably his one and only hero and he worshiped the ground that this man walked on. It’s his doing that I even know who Bowie is. My father didn’t listen to that sort of music, and my mother did when she was a teenager but didn’t raise my sister and me on it, because she thought it would be a “bad influence.” So. Shawn taught me who Bowie was, what he had been. Changed my life forever, he did.

Q: Is there a song by #3 that makes you sad [The Raintree]?
Um. Let's see. Orphans gives me this strange feeling in the pit of my stomach, especially when everyone starts singing together. Given, I’m sure they were all semi-drunk, but it still hurts nonetheless. Kind of a longing, so to speak. First time I heard it, at 5 am, I just about bawled my heart out. And it’s just such a beautiful song.

Also. His cover of Torn. Which, in all honesty, the original version isn’t all that sad. The lyrics are a bit heart-wrenching, but the music is rather upbeat. But the way he sings it, sheds a whole new light on the song. It shows the heartbreak within it. I love it.

Q: What is your favourite song by #1 [Placebo]?
Ugh. I'm supposed to choose? Well, okay. There will have to be several.

First and foremost, PlaySpecial Needs for the sheer beauty of the song. The entire second verse is pure gold, in my eyes.

Plasticine. The lyrics are what really grabbed me on this one. It will be a favourite of mine for a very, very long while.
The only thing you can rely on, is that you can't rely on anything. Don't go and sell your soul for self-esteem. Don't be plasticine. Don't forget to be the way you are.
This song has helped me stay true to myself on multiple occasions over the past couple of years.

Also. PlaySong to Say Goodbye. Everything about that song hurts. And I rather love that.

Same foes for PlayPierrot the Clown. It hits very close to home. I mean. I’ve never physically been hurt by someone that I cared for. But I am friends with people who have. And this song just. Shows you what it feels like. It’s heart-breakingly beautiful. The vocals are what does it, I suppose.

Hang On To Your IQ. The calming effect this song has on me is unbelievable. It's one of the first 'Bo songs that I ever heard - so it's definitely got a special place in my heart.

And PlayFollow the Cops Back Home and Then the Clouds Will Open for Me because they both make my chest ache. And the lyrics to both are beautiful.

And, for the songs that I have no valid reason for considering favourites, but I do anyway: PlayDrag, PlayDrowning by Numbers, PlayYou Don't Care About Us, and Post Blue.

Q: Which of the ten have influenced you the most?
No questions asked, Placeboit’s . They have, as cliché and lame as this sounds, changed my life. Not in the sense that they “saved” it, because, no, they didn’t. They changed my life, by opening my eyes, so to speak. In that whole - “Whoa. Androgynous boy in a dress. That’s interesting.” – way. I guess that helped me find out who I was, in a way. I learned that I didn’t have to have a certain reason to be the way that I was. I didn’t have to explain myself. I was just that way. And it was alright, it was okay to be like that.

They were one of the first bands where I was completely drawn to the music before I had even seen the band member’s faces. Before I knew that Brian looked like a lady-boy. Or that Stefan was gay. Before all that, it was the nasally, high-pitched, but not quite feminine voice. And the way none of the songs sounded the same. I don’t know. They changed music for me.

Q: Which artist makes you the most happy?
The Raintree. Because Mr. Ryan Osterman’s music is the epitome of being happy. He writes a few songs here and there that make my chest ache and eyes well-up, but it’s usually not in a sad or depressed way. He writes things like “Our hands were made in pairs for a reason, so I could hold yours in mine.” He loves life, and that, in itself, makes me happy.

Q: Which artist have you liked the longest?
Weirdly enough, I’m going to have to say, Bright Eyes. I can’t pinpoint the exact moment when I started liking any of these bands, but I do know that I knew about Oberst far before I knew about any of the other bands on my list.

Q: Are there any artists you will be listening to in 20 years?
Of course. This was expected, but Placebo. I will always, always have love for these men. They’re just one of those bands. You know, the kind that seemingly never make awful music. They have continuously, in my opinion, made phenomenal records. And for that sole reason, I’m sure I’ll keep listening to them for a long time to come.

David Bowie’s another because his music keeps evolving. It changes and redefines itself each decade, which is a huge part of it’s appeal. He never makes the same record twice.

I reckon that I’ll still be listening to the Manic Street Preachers, too. Seeing as Richey Edwards helped change my entire outlook on, well, everything. Life. Music. Plus, lyrically, they have to be one of the most intelligent bands that I listen to.
