1) Quicksand was one of the most influential New York post-hardcore bands of the early to mid-90’s, led by Gorilla Biscuits mastermind/guitarist Walter Schreifels. Quicksand provided the blueprint for many bands to follow in their footsteps. British bands such as Hundred Reasons and Hell is for Heroes are two such artists who take their cues from this band.
The band released two widely-acclaimed albums in Slip and Manic Compression before disbanding in 1995. In 1997, Quicksand reunited, and embarked on a successful tour in 1998 with The Deftones. Towards the end of the year they entered the studio to begin work on a follow-up to Manic Compression, but tensions within the band caused them to split up for good.
Walter went on to form Rival Schools which released one album.
2) Quicksand were an obscure Welsh psychedelic and progressive rock band active in the early 1970s. The members were Robert Collins, Jimmy Davies, Phil Davies and Anthony Stone. They released two singles, Passing By/Cobblestones (Carnaby CNS 4015) in 1970 and Time To Live/Empty Street, Empty Heart (Dawn DNS 1046) in 1973. Their only album, Home Is Where I Belong (Dawn DNLS 3056), was released in 1974.
3) Quicksand (Zivo blato) is a Croatian heavy metal band. It was founded in Split in 1998 by folk/rock singer Sinisa Vuco. It’s a trio consisting of Sinisa Vuco - which takes the stage name Vasilije Mitu (guitar/vocals), Veseli Sir (bass), and Mala Planina (drums).
Including Small Brown Bike, Rival Schools, Helmet, Snapcase and more…

I seen these guys open up for Helmet when 'Betty' came out. There was another band that I don't remember, but it was one helluva show. I recommend Rival Schools.

Quicksand is awesome, period. Fuck all labels and tags. We all like this band, so let's listen to it and discuss how awesome they are instead of arguing about useless shit...

kingrizla, I agree with you. Fugazi is considered by some people to have originated the term emo. But they do not seem to represent what most people mean when they say "emo". I don't really care. I can readily admit that I like QUicksand without worrying if I will be labeled as emo. I think I am too old for people to call me emo regardless of what music I listen to,anyway. These guys definitely paved the way for a lot of music, that's for sure.

i agree with kingrizla...but what i came here to say is that it surprises me that incubus does not make it into the similar artists category for these dudes. having only heard the songs backward and simpleton off manic compression, i can definitely be wrong, but those two songs at the very least sound like they are the basis of all incubus songs.

that last part was supposed to be, they're not allowed to come out until they've proved to recognize good music.

Ummmm... HELLO!!! This is back when Emo music was still GOOD and RESPECTABLE and the bands has actual TALENT. There was no Fall Out Boy garbage and what the hell ever else the poor young 'uns have resorted to listening to today. I want to gather them all up and lock them in a room for a week with a bunch of emo music from this era and they're not allowed to come out until they've proved to recogni

r they playin again 2gether? I saw in events that they played 2 concerts this year. Is that this QUICKSAND??

Why must people get so damn uptight about these things? This can be (and has been) described as Emo - so is a lot of utter crap. People describe Bon Jovi as rock - does this mean Led Zep aren't rock because the two are so different? Label it however you like - it's irrelevant - intelligent, emotionally sophisticated, hardcore punk rock-derived doesn't exactly trip off the tongue does it...
