I've always been a quiet fan of hardcore. There are sooooo many bands I could name here that would give you an idea, but here's a couple:

- Sick of It All
- Hatebreed
- CIV
- Snapcase
- Strife
- Agnostic Front
- Minor Threat

There are so many, some of them straight-edge, some post-hardcore. But no matter what the label was, the music's aggression and a sense of striving for unity, responsibility, respect -- it all spoke to me. I'm almost 40 now, and hardcore's come a long long way. It's no longer a common thing for me to get excited about a new hardcore band. But just the other day I got a sampler that had a song that grabbed me and made me want to check out the band.

post hardcore: Este es el nombre técnicamente más correcto para este tipo de música, todas esas bandas tocan un tipo de post hardcore, pero no es muy util debido a que existen otras bandas que tocan tambien post hardcore pero suenan significativamente diferente, por ejemplo: Quicksand y Fugazi (Más información acerca del post hardcore aqui) Lo que quiero decir es que aún cuando este nombre es correcto , el término post hardcore es demasiado amplio y no muy útil para clasificar estas bandas debido a que todas ellas tienen algo en común que las de post hardcore original no tienen: la fuerte influencia de emo de tercera ola. Todas estas bandas son lo suficientemente similares entre si para merecer un tag más especifico. Usar Post hardcore para ellas es como decir que Nirvana tocaba rock, si tocaba rock, peeero...

emocore: Este término tambien es usado para las bandas de emo de primera ola (Native Nod, Rites of Spring, Moss Icon, etc.). A mi personalmente me gusta, suelo pensar en el como una abreviación de "post hardcore influenciado por emo 3ra ola" además, Rites of Spring y los otros ya tienen demasiados tags que no deberían generar confusión como emo , emo 1ra ola y el más largo emotional hardcore punk :)

screamo: Asi es como originalmente este estilo de música fue promocionado por las casas disqueras, el problema es que screamo es tambien un subgenero diferente del post hardcore que incluye bandas como: I Would Set Myself on Fire for You,Envy, Saetia, The Kodan Armada,Circle Takes the Square etc . Aún cuando pueden tener similitudes, en terminos generales ambos subgéneros tienen características músicales diferentes.

Entonces, quien usa emocore, quien screamo y quien post hardcore para este tipo de música?


Experimenté un poco con google trends y encontré tendencias interesantes. Antes que todo voy a asumir que todas las búsquedas en google acerca de esos términos se refieren a esta clase de música y no a sus otros usos (emocore como emotional hardcore punk, screamo como la música de saetia o post hardcore como la música de Fugazi). Creo que es una más o menos buena aproximación porque deberían tener muchas más búsquedas para este subgenero que para los demás.

Análisis

La mayoria de los paises y ciudades tienen a screamo como su termino más buscado con algunas excepciones donde emocore es el primero. El término screamo esta más o menos distribuido de manera pareja alrededor del mundo, no es facil encontrar una tendencia para su uso, mmm depronto hay una pequeña tendencia a no ser usado en la europa no inglesa

No hay un solo pais, ciudad o lenguaje donde post hardcore es el termino más buscado. Este término es principalmente usado en paises de habla inglesa como Estados Unidos, Reino Unido, Canada y Australia (ver gráfico 1), supongo que es usado por la gente que sabe cual es el otro significado para screamo. Mucha de esa gente esta aca en last.fm eso explicaría porque muchas bandas tienen este tag como el principal, especialmente las más pequeñas o nuevas que aún no han sido "contaminadas" por el "conocimiento del publico general". Esta tendencia se puede ver en bandas como Dear Whoever and LoveHateHero

Emocore: pasa algo muy interesante con este término, mientras el mundo angloparlante parece completamente ignorarlo, es el término principal en muchos otros idiomas: Portugués, Alemán, Francés, Holandés e Italiano, además esta de segundo despues del screamo en el Español y Polono. En términos generales se puede decir que es principalmente usado en sur américa, (siendo el término principal en Brasil y Colombia) y en la europa no inglesa, es el principal en paises como Alemania, Bulgaria, Suiza y Rusia. Esto tambien puede ser visto en last.fm visitando bandas alemanas y rusas que tocan este estilo, por ejemplo:Океан Моей Надежды y Radio Cambodia por los rusos y Waterdown y Fire in the Attic por los alemanes.

A modo de conclusión: Screamo es el término más usado, se usa alrededor de todo el mundo con menos uso en la europa no inglesa. Emocore es el segundo término más usado, usado en latinoamerica, Rusia y Europa exceptuando el Reino Unido. Finalmente post hardcore es usado por una cantidad relativamente pequeña de gente en el mundo angloparlante.
