Although I really do like R.E.M. I find this album a bit boring. Reading the reactions on the site, I must be the only one on the entire planet.

It's too bad this album is mastered so poorly. I haven't gone back to it much as a result. (They should have kept the mastering style similar to Monster, it would be appropriate for the material and wouldn't sound like shit.)

There was a time, back in the day (the 80's) when R.E.M. wrote simple songs that were memorable and packed a punch. They were short ditties that got in your head and made you wanna jump up and down. As with any band the rawness was left behind and replaced with exploration. This is nothing new as all the great bands throughout history have pursured various avenues of music. Rarely, however, does a band last long enough to come full circle. R.E.M., making the most of their lasting career, took that leap. With "Accelerate" we find the band returning to their roots. Every song on the album is short, to the point, and is filled with memorable hooks, clever one-liners, and music that makes you wanna jump up and down. I wonder if the boys went back to the days of "Frequency" and said, "Let's make an album of all songs that sound like that!!" I would personally rank, "Accelerate" as one of R.E.M.'s best outtings and far and away their best effort in 10 years.

Shame it's so short... Staring Down the Barrel of the Middle Distance and On the Fly coulda been included, they were great tracks. But still, it's a great album. Not a second is wasted...and the lyrics are mostly up there with the best =)

I like this. A lot of REM sounds grating but this is more true to Monster, which one of their best IMO.

two months on and i still love this; that's a good sign. pitchfork put it best; the fact that they saw a problem and addressed it is pretty remarkable for a band that have been together nearly 30 years. x

Initially I was just happy that it was an REM album that actually rocked. However, the more I listen to it, the more I realize this is just a great album overall.

I've been listening to this constantly. At first I thought it was okay. Now I feel like it's their best since Out Of Time or even Green. The most complete REM album in a long, long, time. I can't believe how much it grows on you (me).

Wow! R.E.M. are finally back with this album after 3 so-so albums. This album really remind me of albums like Monster, Document and a little bit of Automatic for the people. So great to hear back the old and good sound of R.E.M.! :)
