  • recent thoughts (in list form because i've suddenly become listcrazy):

    a) i saw RJD2 a few days ago and unfortunately, i was in such a horrible mood i wasn't really able to enjoy the show whatsoever, but now i'm absolutely crazy about PlayGhostwriter and PlayCut out to FL and i want to slap myself for not taking advantage of hearing him perform live and dancing my heart out. i'm making up for it in the living room, though.

    b) what is wrong with me? i lived in nevada city for five years and yet, just now, am i realizing how absolutely amazing Hella is. of course, they were always amazing, but fuck, i never realized exactly how amazing they are. the drumming, oh my!

    c) again, regretting the whole living in nevada city and not really taking the opportunity to enjoy all the nevada city musicians as much as i could have. why did i never at least have a small, even just cordial and polite, conversation with Aaron Ross? i think i told him how wonderful i thought Warlock was, but that's it.

    d) for some reason, i never really thought much of Devendra Banhart before, but he very well may become the soundtrack for this summer. Electric Heart! (oh i can't even tell you how much i'm looking forward to this summer in portland. even just the few cruel beautiful days scattered against the otherwise gloomy gray and constant rain have been unbelievable. everyone is ridiculously happy and it's impossible to be in a bad mood.)

    e) i'm sure i had more to add to this list, but i've forgotten it and this is getting a little long anyhow.

    yooooooo

I thought I would take some time out of my hectic Uni life and write about a mix I have been enjoying for some time now. I am not much of a reviewer, in fact I am a shitstain of a reviewer, but I thought this journal would help publicise this gem of a mix :)

Back in October 2006 my good friend Dave, who also happens to be the hip-hop ninja who creates Macadamia with me, released Walls Eating Trees (You can find it here: http://www.rootscape.co.uk/journal/archives/9) to the unwilling public under the name of Rootscape. He says it's probably the last mix he will ever do, but I sincerely hope NOT as it is absolutely fantastic.

This mix has introduced me to a whole new range of artists I would have usually dismissed before as plain inaccessible. This ranges from Bonobo to RJD2. The track list is perfectly balanced with tracks of a chilled nature and to some more intense ones that will have your head nodding. Chilled beats from PlayThe Original Instrumental which he uses to agonisingly tease you into the intense atmospheric head-nodding-fest that is PlayPretense. Not content with just melting your face, he continues to melt your head with PlayThe Plug (Quantic mix). And this is just three tracks of the list! :)

This mix reminds me of what an honour it is to make music with this guy, massive respect to my friend Dave :) I cannot wait for his solo stuff to come round to release, which hopefully will be on our own record label which is soon to be started. Also, I cannot wait for the next assault from Macadamia which is currently in the works :)

    Track list:

    PlayHead to Head
    Playlittle bit of soul
    PlayTravelogue
    (Cruise) Don’t Stop
