It's official: Iron Man has just become my top played film score album of all time (well, since I registered at Last.fm at any rate). Not only that, it has done so IN THREE DAYS. I got the album this past Thursday morning and I am now, on Saturday night, about to submit my 318th scrobble of a Ramin Djawadi Iron Man track. If you add to that plays of the tracks he didn't compose, the album total is 350 plays. Compare the fact that my overall top artist had 258 plays in their first week on my charts, and that was from listening to two albums for an entire week starting on a Sunday. This is truly unprecedented.

I wrote about why I like the theme in this journal: http://www.last.fm/user/nDroae/journal/2008/06/02/2095ex_rabautizygatus_%28and_new_film_scores%29 I really want to buy the score so that I can find out whether I like it on its own, because I'm pretty sure I'll love it. It's not like one Media Ventures/Remote Control score ever sounded enough like another to lose my interest any way. I get annoyed when James Horner rips off John Williams' Schindler's List theme (which he's done twice), and that's about it. I don't care that Williams' Star Wars theme ripped off something of Korngold's.

I think Djawadi did exactly what he was asked to do and created a perfecly fitting score for Iron Man. But yeah, it's simplistic, generic and sometimes very hard to enjoy on album.

@Wulfenlord - A film like this traditionally needs at least one killer theme and preferably at least one more for the bad guys. Iron Man has generic themes straight out of a db that sounds like a million themes we've heard from Zimmer, Badelt, Powell, Glennie-Smith, Mancina, et al that never develop into - or from - anything. 85% of musical time consists of filler samples that have no thematic, harmonic or textural relationship whatsoever with each other or the action on screen, let alone the main themes of the picture. (apart from mostly being synth and electrical guitar rhythms) In the end, the coolest part of this film musically was the trailer where Black Sabbath played over Mark 1 slamming down bad guys. Because there the music and movie high-five each other and kick ass. In the finished movie there are no real high-fives moments apart from maybe a few scenes. We obviously listen to film music differently. My 5 cents. Keep scrobbling!

The Special Agent Mahone-piece really fits those early scenes with the character. Brilliant!

Nice to see a film music composer in the Hype List for once! :) Too bad it's because of a mediocre, generic score. Loved the movie Iron Man though.
