About this album
The musical styles of Blood Sugar Sex Magik differed notably from the techniques employed on the band’s preceding album, Mother’s Milk (1989), and featured little use of heavy metal guitar riffs. The album’s subject matter incorporated sexual innuendos and references to drugs and death as well as themes of lust and exuberance.
The album has sold over seven million copies in the United States alone and became the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ introduction into popularity and critical acclaim. Blood Sugar Sex Magik produced many hits for the band, including “Give It Away”, “
The record also marked the departure of guitarist John Frusciante mid-tour in 1992, until his return in 1998.

Basically the greatest album made by any band ever. Like darthsketch put it: "it practically jerks off to itself". It's perfect.

Why come and shit all over my comment? At least you got a couple of things right "its the chilis at the height of their musical creativity", "it is psychedelic, funky, sex-fueled chili rock though". And I agree with phillybird, but it wont happen because the chilis are near enough old men now and their sexual mojos may be wavering a bit XD

if they go back to this style i'll give up my left nut.

just because they recorded it in a shitty mansion and they were all junkies doesnt make it the greatest album ever. its good because it merges funk with rock, hence funkrock. im such a genius. but anyway. yes this is the best rhcp album because its the chilis at the height of there musical creativity, while still being in the funk genre, not like there recent pussy rock efforts. and i dont know how 'beautiful' it is. it is psycheadelic, funky, sex-fueled chili rock though

Wtf? everything stands out with this album, this is by far THE. GREATEST. ALBUM. EVER. Seriously, everything about it is unique and amazing for so many dfferent reasons, with the whole recording in the haunted blood sugar mansion and where the chili peppers themselves were at this point in their careers and just the four guys living in the mansion doing nothing but creating the music they love and the music being so sexual and beautiful. Real chili peppers fans would know what I'm talking about and understand why this album is so great.
