Steve Miller Band
On Tour2,698,202 plays (292,019 listeners)
In 1968, Miller formed the Steve Miller Band, with Scaggs handling vocals, and released an album, Children of the Future, the first in a series of discs rooted solidly in the psychedelic blues style that dominated the San Francisco music scene at the time. Scaggs would leave the band after a couple of albums with vocal chores taken over by drummer Tim Davis; Miller himself would begin singing occasional lead on 1969’s Brave New World. These albums performed respectably on the album charts but failed to yield a hit.
In the 1970’s Steve had some hits that became classics over the years - “Jet Airliner”, with some evocative lyrics that brought home the loss of life on the road; and The Joker which includes the famous line about the “pompodous of love”, which is, of course nonsense, but didn’t stop a lot of stoned folks from spending years talking amongst themselves. Fly like an Eagle was pretty cool too… only knock on Steve was his tendency to crib his stuff a bit too closely from the top tier of the day, if ya dig.

If there is any rockstar that should be complaining about how they got ripped off, it would be Steve Miller. He made awesome music for twenty plus years, touring constantly only to land a job as a disc jockey at a nameless Cleveland radio station. A shame indeed.

A mighty band. Easy listening yet ingenious music.

Don't care too much for their 70's work but I love the liner notes in Number 5. He instructs the listener to pass the copy along to a friend once they've "gotten the message." Would a record label even allow an artist to say something like that today? A true musician's musician.

Das Pop has an excellent (live) cover of Abracadabra. Figered out that a few songs I liked all came from this one band.

Ah... where's "Macho City"? Lovely bit at the end which I probably wouldn't have heard anyway in a 30 second snippet.
