------------------------
I arrived to Melbourne's Corner Hotel during the final song of Oh Mercy's set. But from what I heard, I can tell that these guys are going to have a good future ahead. Talking about bands with a bright future, Dash & Will, the second support of the evening, are on the verge of success. Dash & Will consist of two young attractive girls from Melbourne. Last time I saw the two girls perform, it was a very intimate gig with acoustic guitars. Although things have changed in 6 months, they now have a backing band to give their songs a pop sound. The crowd seem to enjoy Dash & Will, even if a few of them were calling out silly remarks such as "make out (with each other)". Dash & Will's performance reminds me of a mix between Tegan and Sara and Australian pop-band The Veronicas.
Dash & Will set consisted of their debut single 'Pick It Up' (they could have picked a debut single), 'Too Young', and an Easybeats cover of 'Somethin' Wrong'. Dash & Will have a good pop-sound which will feature in the Australian Top 20 charts within the next year.
At 10:30 headliners of the night and Sunderland's finest rock band, The Futureheads. The Englishmen begun the night of fast-paced post-punk/indie rock tunes with 'Walking Backwards'. It did not take the crowd long at all to start dancing along. It wasn't long when the guitar strap of frontman, Barry Hyde, fell off his guitar. Amazingly, (and a funny site to see) the roadie fixed it with tape while Barry was still playing his guitar.
The band praised the Melbourne crowd for their excitement during the gig, and they received a loud cheer when the crowd were told they were better than the crowd in (Melbourne's rival city) Sydney. The chemistry in the band was great to watch, they were not shy to speak to the crowd at all. Guitarist, Ross Millard advised the crowd the upcoming song started with his favourite chord, when his fellow band-member replied "You only need to know three chords in this band though".
The Futureheads covered songs from their three-album back catalogue including; Radio Heart, recent hit single 'Beginning Of The Twist' and Kate Bush covered tune 'Hounds Of Love', which echoed across The Corner Hotel and became the highlight of the gig.
After an hour of playing, The Futureheads left the stage. But the crowd wanted more, some fans even pulled down the microphone from the stage and started yelling into it "FUTUREHEADS! FUTUREHEADS!". The band then returned on stage, to play three more songs (the band stated they don't usually do encores) and satisfy the crowd one last time.

Top 10 questions
5 Oct 2008, 21:30 by Brottarhunden
Thought I'd kick off this journal with a Q&A with my top 10 overall artist list. Saw someone else doing this somewhere and thought it would be cool. Here we go:
1. Tegan and Sara
2. The Beatles
3. Alanis Morissette
4. Maria Mena
5. Juliana Hatfield
6. Paul McCartney
7. Feist
8. Bruce Springsteen
9. Elliott Smith
10. Cat Power
Before we begin... The order above is based on played songs, and that does not always translate to favorite artists. Maria Mena and Bruce Springsteen are a bit misplaced in the Top 10. But all the more reason to write more in this journal later.
What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
Hm, first song I heard by Paul McCartney. Probably would be a Beatles song, but that doesn't really count... My dad had the Ram album and the first song is
Too Many People (great song). So I'll go with that.
What is your favourite album of 2?
Another The Beatles question! This is like asking which one of your children is your favourite. But I love Rubber Soul, Revolver and Abbey Road. I'll go with Revolver! A solid pop album with few weak songs.
What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung?
The first lyrics I reacted to by Juliana Hatfield was Ugly from Hey Babe in 92. It's the essence of insecurity, a bit simplistic maybe, but it goes perfectly with the music and the soft voice.
How many times have you seen 4 live?
Once. Well it wasn't live... My girlfriend was working on swedish TV show and Maria Mena was a guest. She was supposed to sing live, but I think she had some trouble with her voice, a flu or something. She perfomed singback instead though. And this was before I was a fan, and the reason I became one. I want to add though, that I like Maria Mena, but her being in the top 10 is due to me leaving my computer on for a long weekend playing her albums.
What is your favorite song by 7?
Mushaboom or Honey Honey. Pick one? Honey Honey. No, changed my mind!
The Park.
What is a good memory you have considering the music of 10?
Don't have a real memory from Cat Power, I have a strong image in my head though of listening to Names on a bus home after work a couple of years ago. Ridiculously sad song.
Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
Are You Still Mad.
What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung?
The Beatles are not really known for their deep and meaningful lyrics, even though a lot of analysis has been done by journalists and fans through the years. I think all of them would agree that the lyrics was just a means to an end, it was always about the music. Lennon didn't really write those hard-hitting songs until after the Beatles, and McCartney started just a few years ago with real honest lyrics. But this is not about good lyrics, it's about favorites. Abbey Road and the White Album did have funny and smart lyrics, but I'll pick Run for Your Life, written by Lennon, because it's weird and violent and from one of the early albums.
What is your favorite song by 9?
Everything Reminds Me of Her.
How did you get in to 3?
Fell in love with Former Infatuation Junkie in '98. I didn't like Jagged Little Pill when it came out, perhaps due to the hype, but Junkie was a lot different and still one of the best albums from that time.
What was the first song you heard by 1?
Monday, Monday, Monday. Remember seeing the video on TV and liking it, but didn't look them up until Walking with a ghost became a hit.
What is your favorite song by 4?
Just Hold Me I guess.
How many time have you seen 9 live?
Never, and not very likely to happen either...
What is a good memory you have concerning 2?
My whole childhood and growing up with my best friend Anders Tengdahl. I think we listened to The Beatles everyday from when we were 10 years old, until we started a band at around 15 or 16. Good times!
Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
41 one shots is a sad song, wouldn't say it makes me sad though.
What is your favorite album of 5?
Only Everything, if I have to pick one.
What is your favorite song of 1?
Dark Come Soon. A heart breaking song about denial, and lying to yourself, your friends and family. "So what? I lied. I lie to me too."
What is your favourite song of 10?
Good Woman
How many times have you seen 8 live?
Never! But it feels like Bruce Springsteen is here two or three times a year, so if I can get my hands on ticket, sure.
What is your favourite album of number 1?
The Con. This might actually be my all time favorite album (ok, ask me again in five years). It grew on me, on the first listen i was a bit dissapointed, it felt too complicated. But that was actually a good thing, and I've not heard anything like it. Can't wait for their next album and see how different that will be.
What was the first song you heard by 8?
Born in the USA most probably.
