Thirty questions about the top thirty artists on my chart, as of this date.

    1. How did you get into 29?
I got into John Zorn when a friend recommended his work to me. That's what got me interested in the experimental and avant-garde scene.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
A different friend of mine, an avid fan of The Residents, was listening to the "Fingerprince" album, not sure which song, but I was hooked.

    3. How many albums by 13 do you own?
I own all of Rancid's full-length albums, and the BYO Split they did with NOFX.

    4. What is your favorite song by 15?
My favorite Pink Floyd song would be the tasty and whimsical yet strangely dark "Corporal Clegg."

    5. What is your favorite song by 5?
My favorite Melt-Banana song is "Cracked Plaster Cast." I heard that live and I became an instant fan.

    6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
Just pop in any song from R.E.M.'s album "Tales of the Reconstruction." Those are pretty awesome songs.

    7. What is your favorite song by 10?
Wow, a favorite Faith No More song... I gotta think about that. It would likely either be "RV," "Last Cup of Sorrow," or "Arabian Disco."

    8. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
I was watching Beavis and Butt-Head and they were doing a Pizzicato Five video. It blew my mind.

    9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
Lots of Flogging Molly songs make me happy.

    10. How many times have you seen 25 live?
I've seen Bad Religion once, and it was a kick-ass show. But if you count Warped Tour I've seen them twice.

    11. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
The first Rammstein song I heard was "Engel."

    12. What is your favorite album by 11?
I only have compilations of George Formby. The Golden Greats collection has more songs, but the Ultimate Collection spans a greater length of his career.

    13. Who is a favorite member of 1?
My favorite member of Deerhoof? Tough one, they've all got their niche in the band and they fill it well. Then again, I'm spellbound by Satomi's voice.

    14. Have you ever seen 14 live?
I have never seen Primus live, and it kills me.

    15. What is a good memory involving 27?
"Holy shit, is that the theme from Marble Madness?! You mean I'm not the only one who played that tripe?" Gotta love The Advantage.

    16. What is your favorite song by 16?
NOFX has so many great songs. I rather like their cover of Don McLean's "Vincent."

    17. What is your favorite album by 18?
I only have the two well-known Cibo Matto albums, but I love Stereo Type A. One of my favorite albums of all time.

    18. What is your favorite song by 21?
Mr. Bungle is my favorite work by Mike Patton, so this is really tough to choose. I definitely love "My Ass is on Fire," but I can't count out "Retrovertigo."

    19. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?
The first Boris song I heard was "Pink."

    20. What is your favorite album by 2?
Talking Heads is my favorite band, and I usually fluctuate between albums. But I'll always have a place in my heart for "Fear of Music."

    21. What is you favorite song by 3?
I have a lot of favorites from the pillows, between "Hybrid Rainbow," "Beehive," and "Lo-Fi Boy, FIghter Girl."

    22. What is you favorite song by 8?
Haha, George Carlin sings the best songs. My favorite is "I shoulda never played the game/ I shoulda fucked ol' what's her name".

    23. How many times have you seen 17 live?
I've seen Daniel Johnston live once. I love that man.

    24. What is the worst song by 12?
It's really hard to pick out the worst song by Boredoms, because they keep shaking the standards of music to the point where best and worst are irrelevant.

    25. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?
My dear friend Wesley Willis. I heard "2x4" first, and it was hard not to love it..

    26. What is you favorite album by 7?
My favorite Polysics album is one of their early ones, "National P."

    27. What is your favorite song by 24?
Cyro Baptista is nuts! My favorite would be "Tutuboli." So much fun to listen to.

    28. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
Tons of Beck songs make me happy. The whole "Midnite Vultures" album is bound to make me happy.

    29. What is your favorite album by 4?
Wow, now you're getting into a territory of indecisiveness. It's hard to pick a David Byrne album out as my favorite. No, I mean it. I can't think of one I wouldn't consider my favorite. Ugh, fine. My favorite is "Grown Backwards."

    30. How many albums do you own by 20?
I have 8 albums from The Clash. All six studio albums, Black Market Clash and Super Black Market Clash.

    01. How did you get into #31?

(Thursday) Man, I am not sure I even remember. Actually, wait, I do. This kid Zach - HotWaterMuzach - from the X-Board told me I need to listen to "Cross Out The Eyes" in I think it was 2001. Heard it and loved them, oh my goodness Full Collapse is such a quality record.

    02. What was the first song you ever heard by #22?

(Asobi Seksu) The first song I heard by them is "Everything Is On," the intro to their album Citrus. Never heard them before I got the album.

    03. What's your favorite lyric by #41?

(Small Brown Bike) "Driving through your childhood and all the stories that you've told me since we first met, I get the feeling that you're forgetting to tell me what you're trying to forget. As we walk across the park on the iced-over grass, you start to talk about all the times when, and all the nights when, and the underneath us breaks like glass." I hope this counts, this was from the split collaboration between Small Brown Bike and The Casket Lottery. Technically Nathan Ellis from TCL is singing - the song features Nathan on vocals but Small Brown Bike on instruments. Yeah, I think that counts.

    04. What is your favorite album by #49 ?

(The Decemberists) Hmmm... you know, the Decemberists wear quickly on me. I like certain songs by them a great deal, but i can't listen to any of their records all the way through. If I had to choose one... I'd say Her Majesty.

    05. How many albums by #13 do you own?

(The Velvet Teen) Regrettably I physically own none since all of my albums were stolen from my car in the early 00's. On the iPod I have four full albums: Plus, Minus, Equals, Out Of The Fierce Parade, Elysium, and Cum Laude!

    06. What is your favorite song by #50 ?

(Elvis Costello & The Attractions) Jeez, this one is tough. I guess my gut feeling is either "Alison" or "Watching The Detectives." Probably "Alison." It's just so lovely and sweet sounding with such bitter, cynical lyrics. A real classic.

    07. Is there a song by #4 that makes you sad?

(The Lawrence Arms) Another tough one. Almost any of them, especially some of the early ones, make me sad in the nostalgic sense. The Arms are one of my all-time favorite bands ever, and they will forever remind me of my youth, miserable Chicago winters, and good times spent with close friends. If I had to choose one in particular it would be "Eighteen Inches."

    08. What is your least favorite song by #15?

(The Smiths) They don't have many that I do not like, but "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" is pretty annoying.

    09. What is your favorite song by #5?

(The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up) It was "Seattle" for a long, long time - one of the most heartwrenching songs ever. But I think "Silver Sparkler" has overtaken it in recent years. Jamie from Xiu Xiu's guest vocals are so haunting on it.

    10. Is there a song by #6 that makes you happy?

(The Advantage) Haha, they cover NES songs. All of them make me happy.

    11. What is your favorite album by #40?

(+/-) You Are Here is easily their best album. Solid all the way through.

    12. What is your favorite song by #10?

(Alkaline Trio) Oh God, seriously? Shit, I dunno. It's old, whichever one it is. Probably "I Lied My Face Off." Yeah.

    13. What is a good memory you have involving #32?

(Saves the Day) Haha! Oh my, so many. Road trips with friends singing all the words to Through Being Cool. Seeing them live about 9 or 10 times. Converting a hardcore Christian to their gory lyrics. Covering their songs in Two Months Bender.

    14. What is your favorite song by #37?

(Mason Jennings) "Butterfly." Some others come close, but "Butterfly" is still the best.

    15. Is there a song by #19 that makes you happy?

(The Dismemberment Plan) Awwww, again, so many. God damn it, I miss them. Probably "Bra" makes me laugh the hardest. So quirky. But "The City" is one of my favorite songs ever. One of those two.

    16. How many times have you seen #24 live?

(The Casket Lottery) Twice - once when they opened up for Small brown Bike's final show (@ The Fireside), and once for their own final show (@ Schuba's).

    17. What is the first song you heard by #23?

(Death Cab for Cutie) This is another question that goes back almost a decade. I would have to guess that the first song I ever heard by Death Cab was probably "President of What?" I know it's one of them, for some reason that particular one stands out in my memory.

    18. What is your favorite album by #11?

(Songs: Ohia) Unquestionably The Lioness. One of a handful of my "perfect albums."

    19. Who is your favorite member of #1?

(The Good Life) Tim Kasher, obviously. He has inspired me more than anyone on this entire list. He is a true genius, someone I admire and look up to, and an incredibly nice and humble person.

    20. How many times have you seen #14 live?

(Blockhead) Only once, when he was DJ'ing for Aesop Rock.

    21. What is a good memory you have involving #45?

(Billy Joel) The best memories I have involving Billy Joel are either dancing with my little brother (Michael - Matthew wasn't even born yet)to The Bridge while my parents cleaned the house. Either that or bringing a cassette of "We Didn't Start The Fire" in to class in 5th grade and singing all the words and feeling like I was cool. I wasn't.

    22. What is your favorite song by #16?

(Sigur Rós) Well, I can't say I can pick one out. You don't really listen to individual Sigur Rós songs. The entire albums are an experience.

    23. What is the first song you heard by #47?

(Bats And Mice) Hmmmm... "Worst Comes To Worst?" Maybe? Don't really know.

    24. What is your favorite album by #3?

(Elliott Smith) Ayyyyeeeee!!! Stop it. These are too difficult. Elliott was a genius and all of his albums were wonderful, all of them brought something different to the table, all of them had themes and moods and feelings attached to them. If I had to choose at gunpoint... Either/Or.

    25. What is your favourite song by #18?

(Engine Down) Probably something off Demure... I will say "Songbird," just because when I think back about when I used to go see Engine Down, "Songbird" was a favorite of mine to see them play live. Keeley would go nuts at the bridge.

    26. What is the first song you heard by #38?

(The Smoking Popes) This is kind of funny actually. I got into them later, around early 1999, when they had already gone on haitus and Josh Caterer had become a born-again Christian. I really liked "Megan" and more of their stuff followed. Then I heard "Need You Around" and realized I used to love this song on Q101 back in 1996 when it got airplay from being on the Clueless soundtrack. I had no idea it was the same band at the time.

    27. What is your favorite lyric that #21 has sung?

(Final Fantasy) "They say heartbreak is good for the skin, but all that it's helped is my drinking." Classic.

    28. What is your favourite song by #2?

(Aesop Rock) Something off of Labor days, one of the greatest hip-hop records of all time. I would probably lean towards "Flashflood" or "Daylight."

    29. What is the first song you heard by #48?

(Crystal Skulls) I believe I just downloaded the album Blocked Numbers off of a recommendation, and "Airport Motels" was the first song on the record. The best one too.

    30. What is your favorite song by #8?

(God's Reflex) Probably "Unfastened In Your Car." That or "Or Ever Be Lonely." Both have similar build up and release points that I love.

    31. How many times have you seen #44 live?

(The Mountain Goats) Sadly, none. Maybe one day. Although I'm not really pained over it.

    32. Is there a song by #17 that makes you happy?

(Bright Eyes) Well there are two: "First Day Of My Life" makes me happy in the sappy lovey way, and "A Line Allows Progress, A Circle Does Not" makes me happy because it reminds me of Wei and I singing it like idiots while we walk down the streets of LA.

    33. What is your favorite album by #12?

(Team Sleep) Well, they only have one. It's self-titled. And it's great.

    34. What is the worst song by #29?

(The Weakerthans) I hate these worst song ones. It's stupid. I guess if I had to choose for The Weakerthans, on Reconstruction Site, there are some under-a-minute interludes I could do without. There. Blah.

    35. What was the first song you heard by #34?

(Rocky Votolato) I first heard Rocky sing when he was fronting Waxwing, but his first solo stuff I ever heard was the song "Suicide Medicine."

    36. What is your favorite album by #39?

(Pinback) Summer In Abbadon is my favorite Pinback album, but they all sound kind of similar so you can't really go wrong. I'm going pretty quick now, I want to finish this before I leave work.

    37. How many times have you seen #42 live?

(Murder by Death) Wow, at least 15 times. I saw their first show ever under the name Murder By Death at some basement show in DeKalb. I saw their first headlining show @ The Fireside and videotaped it for them (sitting on top of the Terminator 2 arcade game). I've seen them as recently as four months ago at The Abbey Pub.

    38. What is your favorite album by #36?

(The Protomen) Well, they only have one. It's self-titled. And it's great. Copy and paste rules.

    39. What is the first song you heard by #28?

(Jawbreaker) I vividly remember the first Jawbreaker song I ever heard being "Condition Oakland." I don't know why, but I do.

    40. What is your favorite album by #7?

(Deftones) White Pony. Hands down. Whew, I'm done!

cloud: I ALWAYS HATED HER ANYWAY he holds her head in the rotten mess until she starts kicking and cuts off her tits with his buster sword and slides them over his hands like boxing gloves and starts hitting sephiroth who licks the rigamortis-erect nipples and jizzes, ever so weakly in clouds shit
cloud laughs and flexes his tit muscles and knocks sephiroth out
cloud cuts off sephiroths dick AND SHOVES IT IN HIS MOUTH then he JERKS OFF ALL OVER HIS FACE and accidentally chokes himself too much and dies

The hardest thing for a die-hard music fan to do is to mercilessly point out their favorite band's faults. It kills me to do this, but do you care? I didn't think so!

    1) System of a Down - They won't be performing for a long time, if ever. Their latest two albums weren't as good as their first 2/3 masterpieces, and they had that awful mainstream sound to them.

    2) Coheed and Cambria - Once again, their latest two albums have an awful mainstream sound to them, not matching their first two. They never release their good songs as singles (PlayThe Suffering and PlayFeathers just don't measure up to the rest of their albums).

    3) Dream Theater - I can't really think of anything. The fact that their songs are so long really bugs me - some of the parts are so different, they could be split into several. That's why I don't have more plays...

    4) Metallica - Can it be any more obvious what I'm going to touch on? Every album after/including Metallica (The Black Album) is absolute crap compared to the previous albums.

    5) Iron Maiden - They took a turn for the worse after Seventh Son... And all the songs sound the same. If you've heard one, you've heard them all!

    6) Tool - Some of their songs are a bit too long, overstaying their welcome. Band members are too reclusive. Too much distance between albums. Their fans are... repulsive. Their music, on the other hand, is genius.

    7) Alice in Chains - Well, obviously, their next album just isn't going to be the same without Layne Staley.

    8) Our Lady Peace - Too much filler on the albums.

    9) Avenged Sevenfold - Bad lyrics. And their fans are annoying. Plus, they're part of that whole Hot Topic scene I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. If they would just take a note from Tool and be more reclusive, the world would be a better place.

    10) Alien Ant Farm - They're essentially broken up. Why? Oh, and the songwriting in the last two albums isn't too great.

    11) 3 - I don't like their vocalist all that much. The end sections of their albums are usually weak.

    12) Kamelot - Their lyrics are a bit lacking, and their songs are mostly the same.

    13) Disturbed - All their The Sickness and Believe-era songs sound the same, and Ten Thousand Fists' songs sound identical as well.

    14) A Perfect Circle - They need to make more original albums, but that's doubtful. And the middle sections of their albums are weak.

    15) The Bravery - Don't fight with the Killers. Play nice. Make more electronica.

    16) Black Sabbath - They should have called it quits after Heaven And Hell.

    17) They Might Be Giants - They're too focused on unorthodox lyrics and themes than in producing high-quality tunes.

    18) "Weird Al" Yankovic - Many of his early parodies just aren't funny, they sound like the filler that one-hit wonder comedy artists would release in desparation.

    19) Serj Tankian - The extra songs on Elect The Dead all sound exactly like the title track.

    20) The Smashing Pumpkins - Irritating vocals, and that whole electronic thing they tried.

    21) Buckethead - Sure, he has tons of albums. But only a few that are really quite good.

    22) Anth0n - They're so damn catchy, and they're so short, so they climbed my charts in one day! I have to NOT listen to him to keep him away from spot #1!

    23) The Advantage - They produce... video game music. Need I say more?

    24) Death Cab for Cutie - Once again, the non-single songs aren't wonderful.

    25) Nine Inch Nails - How did Trent's voice change so much from the Downward Spiral times? It's a turn for the worse. And while I love the sales model for Ghosts, the songs aren't actually that great. I still feel like listening to it, because it's free. Maybe that's how Radiohead is at the top of everyone's charts while being so mediocre...
