The Furs initially used Martin Hannett as a producer, but their initial self-titled album from 1980 was eventually produced by Steve Lillywhite. The LP quickly established the band on radio and was a top 20 hit in the UK. The album also found success in Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Australia. The US version of the album was resequenced, but failed to have as strong a commercial impact.
The Furs found success in the U.S. market with the 1981 release Talk Talk Talk, which made its impact on the US album charts. In the UK, the album was a solid hit which spun off two charting singles, “Dumb Waiters” and the original version of “Pretty in Pink”. The latter song served as inspiration for the 1986 John Hughes film of the same name, and was re-recorded for the platinum-selling soundtrack.
In 1982, the band was reduced to a four-piece with the departures of Morris and Kilburn. (Ex-The Birthday Party drummer Phill Calvert would briefly join the group around this time.) The band’s remaining members moved permanently to New York, where they recorded the album Forever Now with producer Todd Rundgren.

First albums got to be the best. India rolls along with a thundery swagger. You can almost smell the 20 Bensons he smoked while recording the vocals.

Their first album is staggeringly impressive. Really addictive, interesting lyrically and bits of odd instrumentation/effects driven with a fairly punky edge. Really damn good.

Martha and the Muffins are back on the scene. Remember they toured with Roxy Music in the UK around 1980? The band is set to release release the 25th Anniversary Edition of their 1983 album 'Danseparc' on August 4th 2008. Cherry Red Records UK will release the album. The album has been digitally remastered by Peter J. Moore (producer of the Cowboy Junkies' Trinity Sessions album) in Toronto. The album was originally produced by Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel). The album includes 3 bonus tracks including the 12" inch dance mix of 'Danseparc', the b-side 'These Dangerous Machines' and 'Sins of Children (Live)' recorded at the Ontario Place Forum, Toronto, 1983.
