Thursday is a post-hardcore band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA that has released five full-length albums: Waiting (2000 Eyeball Records), Full Collapse (2001 Victory Records), War All the Time (2003 Island Records), A City by the Light Divided (2006 Island Records) and Kill The House Lights (2007 Victory Records). Contrary to popular belief, the bands name does NOT come from the Turning Point Song.

Band Formation and Waiting:

Thursday was formed in 1997 by vocalist Geoff Rickly, guitarist Tom Keeley, guitarist Bill Henderson, bassist Tim Payne, and drummer Tucker Rule. The band began playing basement shows in New Brunswick, and surrounding areas. The band played their first official show on December 31, 1998 in Rickly’s basement alongside Midtown, Saves The Day and Poison The Well.

They recorded demos to hand out at shows and in the summer of 1999 they teamed up with MP3.com for their first official release, the 1999 Tour EP which featured demos of songs that would be soon be found on their debut EP, Waiting, released January 18, 2000, on New Jersey-based Eyeball Records.

Full Collapse:
Hesitant to join a larger label, but with full support from Eyeball Records, Thursday signed to Chicago, Illinois-based label Victory Records. The band’s relationship with Victory Records would be a troubled one, as the band and the label rarely saw eye to eye. Thursday finished up their follow-up to Waiting, Full Collapse, but could not release it the way they intended; Victory Records claimed the band’s lyrics were unimportant and not worth the extra packaging.

i'm gonna say a paraphrased version of what i said to the metallica shoutbox a few days ago. bands change, if they played the same stuff as full collapse, people would bitch about it being the same and that they aren't creative enough to make something different. i'm a huge fan of full collapse and i do agree with those that think acbtld is their weakest, but i still love it as well. its different and thursday is gonna make music that they want to make and you can take it or leave it. no one is making you listen to their new stuff, thats your choice. choose not to listen if you don't like it. that being said, i really don't think they have made a bad song. geoff rickly is an amazing songwriter. i'm excited for the split

FC was very influential and the songwriting was excellent, but I think there are A LOT of ways that ACBTLD beats the pants off of FC. And if anything, I don't think they're a fair comparison. It's like trying to compare bands in two different genres, obviously one person will like whichever band is more inclined towards their genre of preference.
