That summed it up pretty well, I have to say. I do agree, Van Hagar era music was more 'serious', if you will. Of course, you can't go wrong with some of Eddie's shredding on their earlier work.

I think you're giving DLR a little too much credit there. I respect DLR as a vocalist for sure. He's awesome. No one can deny that, but Sammy definitely had the range that Dave didn't which opened up a whole new spectrum of materials they wouldn't have been able to perform with Dave.

"the songs from the Sammy era are impossible to be performed because Dave can't sing them" it´s wrong, Dave can sing them, but Dave DON¨T WANT sing them, it isn´t the same thing, well, and if you think withouth DLR era Van Halen would never had been the amazing group it was. Sorry for my english, I´m spanish (fly) jeje

tottaly agree. I do like the Dave era songs, because of the raw and hard guitar sound, but I think that, as a VOCALIST, Sammy is WAY better. He can sing any of Dave's songs, but nowadays, with Dave on the band, the songs from the Sammy era are impossible to be performed because Dave can't sing them.

i think what people forget to take into account when comparing DLR/Hagar era of Van Halen, is that DLR Van Halen and Hagar Van Halen are two completely different styles of music. While DLR Van Halen kicked ass playing songs such as: I'm the One, Romeo Delight, Mean Street, and Hot for Teacher, Hagar Van Halen also rocked stadiums all over the world with songs like: 5150, Can't Stop Lovin' You, When It's Love and Right Now. The way I see it, DLR Van Halen was definitely the funner band. Who doesn't like getting some booze in your system and listening to some pumpin', ass kicking Roth-era tunes with amazing in-your-face guitar solos? But musically speaking, I feel that Van Halen peaked with Hagar on 5150. At this point, the band had grown up and their music matured as well. With songs like: "Love Walks In", "Not Enough" or even "Dreams", Hagar Van Halen had heart, and warmth (and some ass kickin') that Roth VH didn't. Oh well. To each to their own.

The DLR/Van Hagar debate is an interesting one...my parents both despise the Van Hagar era, but while I do like both, DLR seems to be a winner for me...I like the more guitar driven rock

Hello everybody! I WANT TO SAVE THE ROCK!!! There is a big problem! There is a new band called Giant! In last.fm http://www.last.fm/music/Giant with the same name is the old AOR band Giant and the experimental doom metal band Giant. When users listening "Giant" they see the same name, different pictures and different similar artists-something like this: Tides, Rosetta, Winger,Bonfire..... I want to ask you to visit this link http://www.last.fm/music/Giant/+images and give your negative vote about every picture of the experimental doom metal band. This is really important! This is the way to erase their photos like default pictures for this band. You must give you positive vote about every pictures of the AOR band Giant : and tell for this on your friend!Chears! Sorry, but this isn`t the way to bacome famous -using Dann Huff`s band! Thank you!
