  • Windsor For The Derby: How We Lost (Secretly Canadian)

    27 Jun 2008, 10:15 by RedazioneV

È come se in alcune tracce il lavoro dei Windsor for the Derby rinunciasse alla profondità e si fermasse pericolosamente vicino a cose-che-potresti-sentire-da-(quasi)-qualsiasi-altra-parte. Altrove invece l’altro-pop, i segni di quello che i WFTD sono stati (i segni di ciò che i WFTD potrebbero essere) e la rilettura di ascolti cui Matz, McNeely e compagni fanno esplicito riferimento (”Swell Maps, Section 25, Psychic TV and much of the Factory Records catalog…”) emergono in maniera inequivocabile. Nella sospesa tensione dell’iniziale Let Go (”Grab hold of everything you know/And let go/Let go”). Nei feedback lontani di What We Want.

  • 2007 Albums (Part 12) Sugababes - Change

    9 Nov 2007, 11:31 by sugaboy

    Sugababes - Change (08/10/2007)

Kawałek wyprodukował Dr. Luke i pewnie stąd liczne porównania "About You Now" do "Since U Been Gone" Kelly Clarkson. W konwencję skocznej ballady wpisuje się również "Back When" z nieznośnie prostym refrenem i naiwnymi zwrotkami. Kolejnym wolnym trackiem jest "Mended By You", który z powodzeniem można nazwać młodszą siostrą "Stronger", "Caught In A Moment" i "Follow Me Home". Of A Fallen Tree" Windsor for the Derby?). Pozytywnie wyróżniają się również "Back Down" i "Open The Door" utrzymane w konwencji ska/r'n'b.

  • autumn mixtape 2007

    13 Oct 2007, 18:44 by ookunoki

i've been making a fall mix every year for awhile now. i use the term mixtape because it reflects the way i still approach making mixes. i only used 90 minute maxell tapes for years, so that now i can't help making a mix either shorter or longer than that. i can't shake the two movement (side a, side b) format, either.

if you are used to mixcds, this may seem a little long. the middle of this one is dense and dark. but i hope you enjoy.

    side a
    1. Flying Saucer Attack - There But Not There
    2. Hood - PlayThe Field is Cut
    3. Gravenhurst - PlayShe Dances

    6. Manyfingers - PlayOur Worn Shadow
    7. Tape - Summonspipe

  • Interesting idea

    7 Aug 2007, 18:29 by kealyj

Something I saw elsewhere on last.fm while browsing. It could do with a little more variety but it is a nice way to pass the time that you're supposed to be using to work. Taking your most listened to artists, answer the following questions (and excise my answers):
    1. How did you get into 29?
Earth were recommended to me by a friend a few years ago when we were having a discussion about what were the heaviest albums we had ever heard. (My contribution was Merzbow but can't remember which album.)

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
    Cat Power "The Greatest"

    3. What's your favorite lyric by 33?
The joint entries for 33, Larsen and The Jimmy Cake, are both instrumental bands! The Jimmy Cake have some great titles though.

    4. What is your favorite album by 49?
I only have one Selda Bagcan album which is good but not something I'd call a favourite.

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own?
Strangely enough, I own 13(!) Swans albums.

    6. What is your favorite song by 50?
    Napalm Death "PlayYou Suffer"

    7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad?
There were when I was a teenager, Nine Inch Nails are one of those bands that kind of lose their power as you grow up.

    8. What is your favorite song by 15?
It's hard to pick a favourite Scott Walker song. Something from his last two albums anyway.

    9. What is your favorite song by 5?
Undoubtedly "PlayJoan Of Arc" by the Melvins. It is all that is heavy.

    10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
Many! PJ Harvey, while what she sings about isn't always happy, is an artist that always lifts my spirits. "PlayA Perfect Day Elise" is a perennial favourite.

    11. What is your favorite album by 40?
    Burzum Aske

    12. What is your favorite song by 10?
Dirty Three To Aster!. I'm always asking for it at their gigs when Warren Ellis asks what do we want him to play. He never plays it.

    13. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
Hehe, going to see Wolf Eyes of course!

    14. What is your favorite song by 38?
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band "PlayShe's Too Much for My Mirror"

    15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
Faust "PlayIt's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl"

    16. How many times have you seen 25 live?
    Fovea Hex: Never.

    17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
A fitting start to The Velvet Underground: "PlaySister Ray"

    18. What is your favorite album by 11?
    Tool Aenima

    19. Who is a favorite member of 1?
Einstürzende Neubauten: Alexander Hacke for his tour guide skills but when making music, they are all equal.

    20. Have you ever seen 14 live?
I've seen Mick Harvey both with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and with PJ Harvey but never solo.

    21. What is a good memory involving 27?
Seeing them (A Silver Mt. Zion) live with my friend Marc. We stood at the feet of one of the violin players and all three of us shared a moment of rolling our eyes to the heavens as two very drunk people discussed the concept of something not being dark but "Christmas Dark".

    22. What is your favorite song by 16?
I love Martyn Bates' arrangements of James Joyce's poems.

    23. What is the first song you ever heard by 47?
    Sun Ra "PlayImagination"

    24. What is your favorite album by 18?
The Smashing Pumpkins Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

    25. What is your favorite song by 21?
While I like Tom Waits, I don't really have a favourite song. Most of his music I can take or leave and any of the songs I like I don't really remember.

    26. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?
I can't remember, it was a long time ago when I first listened to Fairport Convention.

    27. What is your favorite album by 3?
Coil Astral Disaster or Horse Rotorvator or Love's Secret Domain or... I could go on.

    28. What is your favorite song by 2?
Impossible to choose. Current 93 is a vocation, not a popularity contest.

    29. What was the first song you ever heard by 32?
Michael Gira: Outside of Swans, it was whatever the first track on the album he did with the guy from Windsor for the Derby.

    30. What is you favorite song by 8?
    Wire "Map Ref 41N 93W"

    31. How many times have you seen 17 live?
Never seen Can but I once saw Damo Suzuki with The Jimmy Cake which was better than Can ever were...

    32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy?
Most of A Hawk and a Hacksaw's music is quite melancholy. I am happy to hear it but it doesn't make me happy when I listen.

    33. What is you favorite album by 12?
    Joy Division Closer

    34. What is the worst song by 45?
No such thing as a bad Bardo Pond song.

    35. What was the first song you ever heard by 34?
The Jimmy Cake "PlayThe Opposite of Addiction"

    36. What is you favorite album by 48?
    Tindersticks Curtains

    37. How many times have you seen 42 live?
Michael Cashmore, no. I nearly got to see Current 93 next month in Italy but they've cancelled so now I've just got a trip to Italy with no music planned.

    38. What is your favorite song by 36?
Something off the new Rivulets album.

    39. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?
    Throbbing Gristle "PlayHamburger Lady"

    40. What is you favorite album by 7?
Nurse With Wound She and Me Fall Together in Free Death

    41. Is there a song by 31 that makes you happy?
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, not exactly happy music but "PlayWonderful Life" makes me feel good about myself.

    42. What is your favorite album by 41?
I don't particularly have a favourite Spires That in the Sunset Rise album.

    43. What is your favorite song by 24?
Anything off the last two Grails albums is amazing.

    44. What is a good memory you have involving 46?
None. I can't even remember who Vedette are!

    45. What is your favorite song by 35?
Number 35 is a mislabelled entry that is actually a compilation from Touch Records.

    46. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
Many but none as much as Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's song with Matt Sweeney, "PlayBeast for Thee".

    47. What is your favorite album by 4?
    Low Trust

    48. Who is a favorite member of 37?
Kevin Shields I suppose (My Bloody Valentine just in case you don't know, shame on you if you thought I was referring to Primal Scream!)

    49. What is the first song you ever heard by 43?
    Joanna Newsom "PlayBridges and Balloons"

    50. How many albums do you own by 20?
I own two albums by Antony and the Johnsons. No prizes for guessing which two!
