bloodthirsty butchers are a Japanese indie rock band formed in 1987. Consisting of (last+first name order) Yoshimura Hideki on guitar and vocals, Imoriya Takeshi on bass, and Komatsu Masahiro on drums, their first three albums were mostly abrasive punk with loose song structure. Their 1996 release “Kocorono” recieved considerable acclaim and refined their sound into more conventional indie rock, and is often considered the butchers’ best album. Mikansei and Sankaku EP were released in 1999, and the band toured with fellow indie headliners Number Girl and Eastern Youth. In 2001, Yamane was released, which marked a stylistic shift towards a more mellow sound. In 2003 they released 荒野ニオケルbloodthirsty butchers (Kouya ni Okeru bloodthirsty butchers), another critically acclaimed album that featured collaborations with Mukai Shutoku, Inazawa Ahito, and Tabuchi Hisako of Number Girl fame. Tabuchi fully joined the band as a second guitarist and backing vocalist in 2004. Their most recent album, ギターリストを殺さないで (Guitarist o Korosanaide) was released in May 2007, marking somewhat of a return to the aggression of their earlier albums.
