Landmarks in my music taste, Part 1.

thanks (two thumbs)
I just felt like documenting landmarks in my musical taste.
I remember the first proper album that was ever bought for me. It was: The Eminem Show. I think I had heard a few tracks and decided i liked it. So at like the age of 10-12 i got that. By my tastes today, I don't think it stands upto other hip hop like N.W.A, Public Enemy and Jay-Z. But we'll get onto them sooner or later.
I can remember one specific Sunday with my father, before I hadnt really cared much for music, until he played this CD of rock music. It clicked with me. These hard and heavy sounds. Spefically I was into Metal. Motörhead were my favourites. It seemed to be so good. The simple and loud volume to it all just appealed to me. During this phase I remember recieving Brave New World by Iron Maiden this album would also boast metal brilliance. Moving me onto other bands like: Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Metallica. In an odd addition to this phase, I would also have a bit of a liking towards Meat Loaf.
The next real landmarks I can think of are, my discovery of Powerman 5000 (which is one of the few bands, I can still listen to.) Powerman 5000 are a rapcore group with a charasmatic frontman by the name of Spider One.
Punk would soon reveal itself to me. Old and new.
Sex Pistols would come out of the dark and I'd be knocked out by the power of The Great Rock and Roll Swindle even though the album/soundtrack isnt the Sex Pistols at their best, it is punk. As its supposed to be. Punk isn't supposed to be some polished piece of work perfected. If it is 'polished and perfected' its my opinon that the music has lost it's punk values.
Standing up for new punk, would be Green Day as I bought International Superhits! and American Idiot both in quick sucession...
To be continued.
