Jeu 29 mai – Primavera Sound 2008
So many good sounds in three days.
Here's the top five list :
1. DEERHUNTER : perfect climax and combination of noise & melody at the ATP stage, new songs from a forthcoming lp, Bradford Cox invites Geologist (Animal Colective) on stage, beautiful final with Strange Lights...and impossible to not mention the ATLAS SOUND set. Bradford is probably the hero of the week-end.
2. ANIMAL COLLECTIVE : sort of triumph at the main stage of the fest, crazy set list as usual, Panda Bear sings Comfy in nautica as expected and it sounds really good. Too years ago, this band played with little soundsystems...There's a real story between them and their audience. Terrific (infra)bass all around the set.
3.PUBLIC ENEMY performing It takes a nation..:
Just before the show, the Bomb Squad dj's played some incredible "dubstep/grime/hop" soundz (or things who are sounding like that, don't really know). Good introduction for the rest, really punchy, some live instruments, and Flavor Flav at his best.
4.BORIS : one of the strangiest (think HEALTH too who played a crazy live performance at the Vice stage)) and noisiest sound (think A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS too, who make a wall of fuzzy sound at the Vice stage again) of the fest', better than their last lp, with a gong on stage, a real experience whatever you think of them.
5.Other good shows and partly seen by : Vampire Weekend (like beginners which is good, good to hear Walcott, Oxford Comma in the night), Surkin & Kavinsky (just before the rain at 5a.m., Fuck Buttons (big crowd to saw them at the ATP stage, sounds really huge, maybe too much...but good anyway), The Microphones (with Julie Doiron from Eric's trip on vocals),Caribou, Shellac, Om, Dirty Projectors...
