SECOND EDITION
Its been a good week for music. I got a couple of BRAND NEW BANDS (at least to me) for you guys. For the whole one (maybe) of you who read this.
Albums the Week!
First album of the week: "The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager" - Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly!!!!!
The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager
Well, the lyrics are mediocre and the singing isn't super, but theres some good acoustic music coming out of this album. I like it enough to put it here. If the singer could stop shouting, adopt a jack johnson lifestyle, and chill out, this album would be great. But its still worth a listen as is.
The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager, Part Two
Second album of the week: "Old Ramon" - Red House Painters!!!!!
Old Ramon
Another good acoustic album, with a little bluegrass style. Good vocals and lyrics this time around. The strange thing about this album is all the songs are over five minutes long, save for one. My attention span is too short, I think. Anyways, I really like this music and its definently worth a listen.
Third Album of the Week: "Return to the Sea" - Islands!!!!!!!!
Return to the Sea
Like Of Montreal meets Devotchka. I immediately made a CD of this album for my car. Its happy and upbeat electronica indie, and there's nothing wrong with that. I liked this band immediately and I know you will too.
That's it this week for the albums, remember, I just discovered this music this week, so I get credit. All of it.
JON'S UNDISPUTED MUSICAL OPINION
I was going to write a big long rant on rap or something like that, but then I discovered the greatest song of all time by the greatest band of all time.
BEHOLD:
DRAGONFORCE. This band is funnier than fake metal bands trying to be funny. Dethklok has nothing on this band. With lyrics straight from the D&D strategy guide and guitar speed so fast you realize that it really doesn't matter what the guy plays, so long as its distorted, it will sound cool, Dragonforce is the new face of metal cliche. Listening to this song makes me want to ride an armored horse in to the dark forest of fairies and goblins to slay the morons who actually listen to this crap just because the guitarist practiced his scales when he was a child. Just being fast at guitar does not make you a good songwriter. Just being GOOD at guitar does not make you a good songwriter (it helps though). Listen to music with emotion and power, not a distortion freak show.
The end. Shout outs go to Keane and the Annuals from saving me from yet another depressive episode on Tuesday.
Till next time.
-Jon
